Well worth the price. Like most people interested in history I am too busy to read even half the books that look interesting. Military History gives intelligent, but easy to digest articles on subjects that I may not otherwise get into. Each issue covers a variety of periods throughout history. Also, unlike some other magazines this one still uses the binding that lists the contents in brief for your perusal while on the bookshelf or in the slipcase. |

Mediocre since Weider Publishing took over |
I have had a subscription to MH for several years. I noticed a format change awhile back and the magazine seemed to have eliminated some of the well-written, well-thought out, and diverse articles, while adding shorter "eye candy" type articles along tidbits ala USA Today sidebars. The mag seems to me more about style that it does about substance these days.
Some of the articles seem poorly researched and lack depth. For example, this month's issue had an apology in response to a letter to the editor, for an article last month that had numerous inaccuracies. The author indicated that he had relied only on one source for the article, and he didn't bother to verify the only source he used.
Some listless photo "articles" have been added(the one this month has 4 photos of unrelated events, taken by the same photographer). Prior months have had photos of blankets made by Mujahadin during the Soviet-Afgan War (which had English wording on them, oddly) and propaganda cartoons drawn by Dr. Suess during WWII. These don't add much value for a military history mag and seem to be wasteful filler material. Makes you wonder what you are paying for in your subscription fee.
I still enjoy the mag, but about half as much as I used to.
Weider publishing has taken over the magazine and the slide seems to correspond to their makeover. The Weiders made there fortune in marketing fitness and bodybuilding products. I wish they had stuck to that instead of compromising a once outstanding magazine.

Had a subscription for over ten years. I let it expire as it had declined in quality. How do you truly hurt someone? Do not take something from them, rather take something then give it back broken! That is Military History under the Wieder guidon. |

Very informative magazine that covers world military history throughout the ages. The writing is clear and intelligent, but very accessible to the average reader. The subscription rate is a good deal and well worth the money. If you are a fan of military history I can certainly recommend this magazine. |
