Book Description |
|
The Gettysburg Expedition Guide is the modern way to experience the Battle of Gettysburg. It is a unique combination of three components: a 58-page guidebook, a driving audio tour (CD) and a computer CD-ROM- all packaged in a handsome hardcover book. The computer CD-ROM is packed with award-winning battle map animations, history movies, virtual tours and quiz games. The illustrated guidebook and audio tour take you on a compelling tour of the battlefield, complete with detailed battle maps, illustrations and famous photographs. This is the ideal package for anyone who wants to tour the battlefield or just gain a better understanding of the Battle of Gettysburg. |

Excellent teaching tool |
I teach Army Officer Candidates and have used this excellent guide twice. To say there is "lots of good stuff" here is an understatement. The various sections give good background on Civil War tactics and weapons. My students especially enjoyed the "animated battle" which traced/showed the battles chronological progress. The 360 degree panorama views were also very nice.
Using the Guide my students were able to conduct better briefs, and also ask intelligent questions of our guide.
Because of the way I use the Expedition Guide, the only addition I would make to the Guide would be the use of topographical maps as the topography was extremely important in this battle. I have made this suggestion to the authors, and they have already made the change to future editions of the Guide. |

Not Enough Time!!! |
|
I bought the Gettysburg Expedition Tour (and the Antietam version) at the Antietam battlefield. I tried to do both battlefields in two days....NOT ENOUGH TIME....I was already familiar with both battles (thanks to Stephen Sears books).....and I wish I HAD ENOUGH TIME to use the multimedia CD-ROM before I did my exploring. I will continue to use the package....to get ready for my next trip.....and hopefully I will have ENOUGH TIME! If you only want an overview of the battlefields, the Audio package will do....that's very well done!!!! |

A wonderful journey |
|
This is a very well done book and audio. I have heard some others in the past and they don't hold water to this one. I can't wait to go to Gettysburg and use it on the battle field |

Wow! |
|
I was looking for something to help my kids and I prepare for a trip to Gettysburg and this turned out to be a gem. The audio CDs and guidebook were first rate - what a great concept for touring the battlefield. That's not the best part though. The computer CDROM had my son glued to the computer monitor for hours. The battle map animations were "very cool" and the movie helped everyone understand the context of Gettysburg even before we got to the battlefield. What an awesome find. It looks like the publisher has guides to other locations too. |

A must have addition |
|
I bought this expedition guide on my first visit to Gettysburg in 2002 and what a gem it has turned out to be. First the audio tour was first rate, to the point where it kept my 3 children interested as we drove through the NMP for 4 hours. When I got home and loaded up the software, I was treated to a multimedia show which I have watched over and over. The details and narrative are excellent and it gives you a great sense of the flow of the battle. I highly recommend this for anyone who is planning a visit to Gettysburg, particularly if it is going to be your first visit. The expedition guide will give you a solid foundation to build upon when you visit the park. |
