Editorial Reviews for  'Koss EQ30 Pocket Size Stereophone Equalizer'

Product Description
Koss offers this three-band stereophone equalizer for expanded frequency response and acoustical contouring. The featured level controls for bass, midrange and treble provide added sound definition. Unity gain amplifier limits power output to conserve battery power from the source. The equalizer is pocket sized for easy travel and portability and operates on 2 AAA batteries (not included) for 15-20 hours of usage.

high volune amp
the koss eq30 is a little amp for md or another portable systems those of you who like to listen to music in high volune and the volume of the md is not enogh this is for you it sounds great and look cool a very good product from koss/

Excellent for the home user; Not for audiophiles!
The EQ30 is a pretty good thing. I use it more as an amplifier than the EQ function, because portables (CD,MD,Cassette) generally have underpowered volumes to conserve battery power. This works great, and can drive my monitor headphones(Panasonic HT355) to ear-splitting volumes.

The other function, EQ is useful for people with those tiny earbuds/cheap on-ear headphones. These headphones generally have poor bass response, and the EQ30 quickly corrects this. Its useful to me, since I can't lug around my lovely, but bulky HT-355s everywhere, I get reasonably good sound using the EQ30 with earbuds. It's also good for getting "hearable" sound from old cassettes/recordings. The 3-bands are more than sufficient for good control.

The battery consumption is average, with alkalines lasting around 16 hours of continous use, and NiMH rechargeables around 10 hours.

The only con is that the amplifier inside the EQ30 is of not very high quality, as a result, a continous, low "hiss" is heard. This is not noticeable easily, unless you're an audiophile. It can become irritating at high volumes in quiet passages (e.g. soft piano music). So, if you want "pure" music, think twice before going for the EQ30.

Finally, I would rate this at 7.5/10: It's its only kind in the home market, and a "pro" pocket headphone amplifier (WITHOUT EQ)would cost you atleast 4 times as much.

So, for the average user, go for it: there's nothing better!
