The TX-SR304 5.1-channel home theater receiver doesn't follow that well-trodden path. By giving you the connections to the A/V components on everyone's lips today—HDTVs, digital video recorders, gaming consoles, etc—the TX-SR304 wants to broaden your entertainment possibilities, not limit them to basic DVD and CD playback. Naturally, you'll want the audio quality associated with the Onkyo name. That's why we've included the circuitry and quality parts found in other Onkyo home theater receivers: Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, 192 kHz/24-bit DACs, a 32-bit DSP chip, and an H.C.P.S. (High Current Power Supply) transformer. Finally, keeping in line with what's really important, the TX-SR304 provides a user-friendly, accessible solution to home entertainment. 192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD. CinemaFILTER: The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your home—this is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater. Dolby Digital EX / Pro-Logic II: Home theater realism reaches new heights with the creation of Dolby Digital EX. By adding a matrix-encoded surround back channel derived from the existing discrete left and right surround channels, the lack of rear surround in 5.1 channel is eliminated. The result - a fuller 360º experience is created…even from 5.1-channel DVD releases. Best results are obtained when Dolby Digital EX is used with movie soundtracks recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX. Pro-Logic II is the latest improvement on the original Pro-Logic standard. Pro-Logic II provides a full-range signal to the five main channels, in addition to a subwoofer channel. This creates a realistic surround environment from a two-channel source, such as CD, Tape, FM Radio, etc. RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo's exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What's more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod® to your receiver through Onkyo's RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can't be experienced through headphones. Great A/V Receiver for the price |

I checked consumer reports for the best Audio and Video Receivers and they ranked the Onkyo among the top. I found that this particular receiver was at a very good price for all the bells and whistles. I am not dissapointed. This receiver has great surround sound options and was easy to set up. I would highly recommend this A/V receiver to anyone. |

Best for the money |

I bought this to replace my 10 year old Onkyo receiver and I couldn't afford to spend much money. I was surprised to see how little this cost and still have great sound and more features then anyone really needs. It's easy to set up with many options. My only complaint is that it is missing 2 features that my old Onkyo receiver had. One, it has no power plug-ins so I had to buy another power strip to plug one of my other components into, and two, I cannot set it to turn on and off with my TV. Other than those two items, which are really miniscule, I highly recommend this receiver. |

bought this receiver Onkyo TX-SR304 to replace my bose which died.Sounds better than my bose and goes alot louder than the bose.have 3 bose speakers in front the small ones for left right and center.And two small RCA speakers for the rear and a Velodyne VRP 1000 Series powered subwoofer.Just wanted the system for suround sound movies and music sounds great for 150.00 bucks and 120.00 for the powered sub.payed 1500.00 for the bose and lasted only 7 years.Better to put a system together than buy a box system. |

really really nice |

We bought this receiver to replace our older Sony unit. The Sony had higher power ratings, but the Onkyo has it all over the Sony in every other department. I'm very impressed with the optical sound, video switching, the great variety of sound stages (and the auto detect feature). It integrates very nicely with our hi def DVR, AppleTV, and DVD player, all optical/digital sound and all component video. Just got around to setting up the distance to listener business, which makes it sound even better. My wife recently remarked that this is the best sounding equipment we've had, and I agree. Voices are very distinct now, whereas they were muddled with the Sony gear. A nice bit of equipment, and much better than I imagined it would be in this price range. A terrific value, and a lot of fun to own. |
