The name "Monitor" is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, modern titanium faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound. The CS2 center speaker has been designed to be the perfect match for Monitor Series speakers in multi-channel systems. The CS2 features a high efficiency design to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. The 1" (25mm) fabric/polymer composite dynamic balance dome tweeter with powerful neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments. Ultimate flexibility comes via the reversible-design cabinets that can be turned upside down to aim "up" when placed under a video monitor. |

Worth the extra $100 |

Folks, don't even think of CS1. CS2 is hands-down better than CS1 and worth every dollar. It is huge and I love it. |

Great vocals, good value |
Have this paired with Polk RC80i ceiling speakers. Amped through Onkyo SR705. YMMV with different setup.
Vocals are clear and accurate during movies and music. Nice separation and clarity. One reviewer noted that it lacks bass...that's what subwoofers are designed for. Similar logic would expect deep lows from a penny whistle. It just doesn't work that way.
I prefer the Polk sound, as their is a good balance of highs and lows without the mids being scooped out. The highs are also never harsh, so if you like super-high, somewhat harsh sounds, this may not be for you.
Overall, Polk delivers a great value. There's better speakers out there, but you'll likely pay much more for them. |

Pathetic Sound |
|
I own an older Polk center speaker, which I bought after comparing it to other center speakers in the store. I've had it a few years. I purchased this speaker based on reviews on Americancivilwar.com. I expected great sound, based on its 5-star ratings. I was disappointed. Voices sounded tinny, with no fullness. This means poor bass response. The highs were clear, maybe too much treble. I requested a refund. |

Excellent Center Channel |
I purchased this to upgrade my CS1. I am surprised how clear the difference in sound quality is compared to the CS1, although I'm somewhat obsessed with speakers. I notice the voices are much deeper and seem more accurate.
Highly recommended. |

BIG SOUND_BIG SPEAKER |
I absolutely love it. I paired this with with Polk audio: CS2 center, 60 towers, RC85i wall souround, and RC80i in ceiling for back surround. With a large living room and cathedral ceilings, and an ONKYO SR805 to push them, these speakers provide an excellent home theater/music experience.
CONS: Make sure you get a subwoofer seperately (not really a con, more of a requirement). The CS2 was bigger than I expected...my previous AIWA center had some dinky 3" speakers so when I pulled the CS2 out of the box, my jaw hit the floor when I saw it...it was love at first sight. |
