Great DVD Player |

This is a great DVD player. After I finally got my TV set to the right conf. the DVD player is pretty simple. I can tell a big difference in the movies we watch. Would recomend this to anyone. |

Do yourself a favor: don't buy it! |
I bought the samsung f1080 dvd player to match my new samsung lcd. I was very disappointed! I returned the product 3 days later. Save yourself the hassle.
*The remote sucks. It's a little cheap rectangle with little cheap buttons. You have to mash down on the buttons for it to work. design flaw!
*I wasn't worried about the remote at first, because I planned to link the dvd player and tv using samsung's "anynet" function. In theory, I could control the dvd player from the tv remote. In practice, this was a huge pain. True, the tv remote's play/pause/stop buttons worked fine. But some crucial buttons were missing, like the dvd menu! So I needed to keep the other remote on hand any way. design flaw!
*The dvd player doesn't have an external display. At first I liked this, because of the pleasing aesthetics and how the unit had been stripped of all unnecessary junk and all that remained was the pure essence of dvd player. blah blah blah. My aesthetic ideals were dashed when I plugged the thing in and used it for the first time. I realized how much I relied on an external display - they're actually very helpful! they show you how much of the movie is left, and what time it is, and all sorts of stuff. Sure, the samsung dvd player can show you all this info onscreen if you press a button, but it's a pain. In summary, design flaw!
*I was all excited to get an "upconverting dvd player with hdmi connection" blah blah blah, but it made zero difference in picture quality. Really. I compared the samsung dvd against my old dvd player which is ~2 years old and connects through component cables. There was no improvement! I looked very closely (inches from the screen) and could not notice any difference in video quality. not quite a design flaw, but certainly overzealous marketing.
I would rate the product one star, but to be fair, it technically "works". If you put in a dvd, it will play it on your tv. but there are many dvd players that work, and few are this frustrating or annoying. Save your money and spend it anywhere else. You can get a nice dvd player for a comparable amount, or if you really want a junky unit, go to walmart and spend $20. It will be the same quality.
I would accuse samsung of deceptive advertising, except the advertising doesn't say "this product doesn't suck." |

Nice Upconverting DVD Player |

I purchased this item to use with my new lcd tv, the Samsung LN22A450 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black, and I have not been disappointed with the results. I set the picture to 720p (my tv's highest accepted resolution), and my DVDs look great. Response time to some button presses can be a little slow sometimes, but other than that it works perfectly. Looks great with the tv set too! |

Very Good Player |
Pros:
Excellent image quality
Small, does not take a lot of room
Touch sensitive "buttons"
Stylish
If used with Samsung TV it will turn the TV on and switch it to the right HDMI automatically
Cons:
Remote Control is Small
Does not have optical digital audio. It does have coaxial digital output.

Nice but hdmi output has limited support |
Cons: Had to return this unit. HDMI is not compatable with all sets/monitors. I was driving a Sceptre 22in. monitor that is 1080p compatible and worked fine on the HDMI output of my lap top. But this unit would only drive it at 480 resoultion. Message said tv did not support 1080p. Samsung did not have solution - said they had simular report from user were it would work on 3rd HDMI input of users TV but not on input 1 or 2?
Pros: smaller size (I wanted to install in a motorhome and size was important). Menus for confguration straight forwared and manual explained settings I looked at fairly well. Samsung support was quite helpful and quickly got me to 3rd level when it was clear others could not solve my problem. I would recommend if you don't plan to use HDMI output. |
