The Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD recorder is capable of receiving both digital and analog broadcasts. Even when digital signals drop out because of interference with direct signal access, which makes the picture either disappear or become filled with block noise, the Digital Tuner still produces a beautiful picture. Just slip the SD card into the slot or use the cable to connect the camera to the USB terminal, and you're ready to enjoy a spectacular big-screen slideshow with family and friends. You can even listen to music recorded onto a USB device while viewing your photos. Connect your Panasonic DVD recorder to a flat-panel HDTV via an HDMI cable and the TV channel setting information is automatically downloaded to the recorder. Once the Auto Preset Download is complete, the DVD recorder will keep whichever TV channel you're watching as its receiving channel. This means you can record the program you're watching by just pressing the Record button on the VIERA remote. With VIERALink, you don't have to worry about setting the recorder to the right channel every time you want to record something. Frequently used buttons, such as Power and Open/Close, are located at the top of the main unit (this makes them easier to see when the unit is placed in a rack, where you need to look down when operating it). Average...Not that impressive... |

I bought this b/c of the VHS/DVD combo... Our daughters still want to see ALL the Disney Princess VHS movies so I thought to combine the two would be a great move ... The DVD started to give me hard time playing the DVD that we've burned from CVS as a picture/music slide shows... It litterally stopped recognizing the disc after playing and it got stuck inside ..."reading error" and it just stopped and not doing anything... after a while waiting (over 15minutes) I then unplug the power cord to reset it then it spits out disc... |

It's a nice unit, easy to set up, be sure you've got your cable box on pbs- and be ready to channel up on the unit if you normally use channel 4,Very easy set up just follow the on screen instructions, The unit is up to date and recognizes all copy protected encryption, I do like the double recorder capability. |

Disappoint from Panasonic |
I got this set thinking this is just everything I needed DVD recorder.
But, I was very disappoint for 1) very often skip scheduled recording 2) periodic lock up and gave N99 error code,(frequent needs reset). 3)you can not record over the air TV program onto VCR tape, so, if your DVD ram is full, the VCR can not help you to tape more programs. 4) Constantly reject DVD+RW disc and show is a bad disc.(waste disc)
Very disappointed Panasonic will make such low quality DVD recorder at such high price. I exchanged another same set, it still has same problems. So I got my money back and purchased a Panasonic DMR-EZ17VK (the set without VCR) thinking maybe the combination set has design problem, guess what, It had same problem as the other 2 sets but just less frequent lock up. I am not sure there is design problem or QC problem, because all these sets are all made in China.
by the way, these sets will not play VCD disc.
Take my advice, DON'T BUY THESE 2 Model I already tried. |

STAY AWAY! Great potential but horrible performance |
I am done with Panasonic. I was a pretty loyal purchaser of their equipment but I am so disapointed with this machine and the fact it is the SECOND Panasonic dvd/vhs combo unit I bought to break down in just over a year that I am giving up on them.
For the money you're spending and the usage you're probbaly expecting from this machine, it's too risky. The first time I gave them break thinking stuff happens. Now, it's twice in one year. Ridiculous.
Simpy put, the potential for this machine is fantastic. It has many great features, is fairly easy to use once you get used to it and offers numerous conveniences and thoughtful features.
Now, if only the thing worked for more than a few months and wasn't so easy to break down, freeze up or just stop working.
This machine (and the previous combo unit I bought but it was a different model) are just way way too delicate and not properly made. It's a bad investment. These are lemons Panasonic is putting out on the market and dissatisfied customers are growing.
These dvd-vhs combo units are obviously going to be used a lot and many people are going to try to transfer vhs tapes to dvds too. Yet, the machines are simply not made well for lots of playing/recording. Two out of two times my dvd player broke down. Both times the optical laser pickup along with the spindel/drive were faulty. Both times the display on the machines told me I had a dvd in the player but in both cases the dvd player was empty. That's the kiss of death for this thing when you see the little dvd symbol in the display but there's nothing in it.
This time, I went and put a previously recorded RW-format disc into the machine and decided to clear the contents so I could reuse the disc and record something new on it. After the machine cleared the contents, it freaked out, made lots of noises and then started telling "No Read" on the display. That turned into the machine unable to read, play or edit any other disc too.
The first machine broke down after eight months, this new one was bought at Target five months ago.
The vhs player and tuner are fine. Ironically, it's the dvd portion of this combo unit that research on the Web has shown me is the typical major problem. So now I have an expensive vhs player with a dvd drivd that can't do ANYTHING.
Do yourself a favor, save a little money, aggravation and disappointment and stay clear of these Panasonic machines because it's obvious these are still evolving and can't live up to the promise.

Best of Both Worlds |

We have an extensive VHS and DVD movie collection and we also record movies/tv shows off the air. We had a separate VCR and Panasonic Hard Drive DVD player that we love for storing movies without disks. Unfortunately, the death of analog television meant we had to change. Since our Panasonic Hard Drive DVD recorder is a gem, we chose the latest Panasonic DVD/VCR recorder. This machine is excellent and does everything for you. It has more bells and whistles than we will use, but we have the capability to add home movies, and pictures if needed. This is a must for anyone. But the best part is that we can enjoy our movie collection no matter what format. Thanks again Panasonic and I hope you place a hard drive in the future model. |
