Two boys' review: Excellent wooden toys for pretend play |
We purchased the Melissa and Doug Wooden Sushi set along with the Melissa and Doug Cutting Food Box for our sons at Christmas (see my Americancivilwar review). It was great to mix and match foods from two cultures!
Here's four reasons we enjoyed this toy so much:
1. It was perfect for quiet play and indoor play during winter.
2. We reinforced good eating habits during meals with the playset.
3. Our sons learned a lot of vocabulary, especially verbs like cut, slice, chop, and mix.
4. Our sons had lots of FUN playing with the food box!
I'm a big fan of Melissa and Doug products: fun, educational and durable. You can check my other Americancivilwar reviews of their floor puzzles. |

Sushi!* |

I purchased this for my little girl and we have so much fun playing with it. The velcro make the blocks stick together which is fun when you are cutting the sushi and rolls. Lots of fun and very durable! I love this brand! |

Miso Cute! |
I bought this for my 18 month old son to start trying some pretend play with him (younger than the recommended age, I know). He LOVES the sound the sushi makes when you "chop" it, although he can't really chop it himself. He likes to pull the pieces apart and listen the velcro. He plays with the chopsticks. The only part of the set that we had to take away was the "ginger" - he kept putting it in his mouth and sucking on it, which made it soggy and gross, but I'm sure an older child wouldn't do that.
Very cute, very durable, painted wood sushi set. Great for the sushi lover's child! |

Fun with food |
|
My 4 year old son got this as a gift, and he loves it! I know that it will teach him about different types and cultures of food, but for now and to put it simply... it's just fun! We make food and pretend to eat it, and he uses it for other creative ideas like making bridges. |

Wow..something other than burgers and sandwiches |
|
If you're looking for something different in play food, then this set is the one for you. I scoured all over and found this set for my daughter's play kitchen, since she already has plastic play food with the typical hamburgers/fries/sandwiches/fruit/veggies. It's so much more durable. My daughter cuts and serves us sushi everyday. =P |
