Jingoism, beefcake, military hardware, and a Giorgio Moroder rock score reign supreme over taste and logic in this Tony Scott film about a maverick trainee pilot (Tom Cruise) who can't follow the rules at a Navy aviation training facility. The dogfight sequences between American and Soviet jets at the end are absolutely mechanical, though audiences loved it at the time. The love story between Cruise's character and that of Kelly McGillis is like flipping through pages of advertising in a glossy magazine. This designer action movie from 1986 would be all the more appalling were it not for the canny casting of good actors in dumb parts. Standouts include Anthony Edwards--who makes a nice impression as Cruise's average-Joe pal--and the relatively unknown Meg Ryan in a small but memorable appearance. --Tom Keogh |

|
In TOP GUN, Tom Cruise stars as Maverick, a talented training pilot in an elite U.S. school for fighter pilots. When he stumbles upon some MiG's over the Persian Gulf, and his wingman panics, Maverick cleverly talks him through the situation to safety. Consequently, he is moved up in rank and sent to the Top Gun Naval Flying School. There he has several conflicts with other students while trying to live up to his deceased father's reputation. Unable to cope with the death of his best friend, and fellow pilot, Goose, Maverick contemplates dropping out, but follows through with his dream and ultimately becomes one of the "best of the best." |

TOP GUN the movie |

Not only is this movie awesome, but how fast it came was almost better! I bought it for my fiance's birthday and was worried about it arriving, but it came several days in advance! It was very nice and new, all shrink wrapped and it is a terrific copy. I was worried it might be not be quality but it was great. I recommend this seller! |

Great action & adventure Tom plays a fighter pilot
that gets sent to TOP GUN a program in the military
for the best of the best pilots.
A pilot with a attitude that may keep him from being
the best.
This is a good story of what a pilot goes through to be the best.
I rate this movie a 9 from 1to10!! |

Writting a review about Top Gun is like making one about dinner at McDonalds: you know well in advance what the product is and what you will get. (and you get it)
This said I must add that I loved this DVD because of the bonus material. It is long and VERY informative. I would have paid double the price just for this stuff. If at any time in your life you had to confess that you liked this movie then please buy this DVD set.
You will not regret it for a second.
Why then not 5 stars? Well,in my case, thoug audio quality is good, I think volume level is low and I had to adjust my TV volume control at very high level. |

Top Gun is one of THE best military movies! |

Very good portrayal of life on an aircraft carrier, although not enough time actually on board. Graphics are crisp and clear. Too bad HD-DVD is no longer supported. Still one of the best military movies. |
