Nancy Drew is an iconic girl detective created by Carolyn Keene with a passion for mystery and all things old. The small-town Nancy Drew (played by Julia Roberts' niece Emma Roberts) is about to experience a serious case of culture shock as she heads to Hollywood on an extended business trip with her father Carson Drew (Tate Donovan) and prepares to join the 21st century (well, sort of) at Hollywood High. Having promised her father that she'll give up sleuthing in favor of becoming a "normal" teenager, Nancy tries her best to resist the lure of the age-old mystery of famous actress Dehlia Draycott's (Laura Harring) death, but living in Dehlia's old booby-trapped mansion full of clues proves too powerful a force for Nancy to resist. Feeling completely out of place with high school peers who prove self-absorbed and obsessed with fashion, Nancy makes an unlikely friend in 12-year-old Corky (Josh Flitter), the brother of one of the meanest girls at school. Hormones and hero worship land Corky right in the middle of Nancy's dangerous detective work and inspire some good old-fashioned jealousy when Nancy's close friend Ned (Max Thieriot) visits from River Heights. Nancy's deductive skills are as sharp as ever, and her inspired detective work will profoundly impact the lives of complete stranger Jane Brighton (Rachael Leigh Cook), her own father, and a host of others. Offering a faster pace for modern audiences than the classic Nancy Drew films, this 2007 movie is sure to enthrall a whole new generation of tweens and teens while simultaneously living up to their parents' expectations. Rated PG for mild violence, thematic material, and brief language. --Tami Horiuchi

Customer Reviews for  'Nancy Drew'

Good in theory, lacking in delivery
There was something about this movie that came across as incredibly flat. The premise seemed interesting, and it's not that everything wrapped up too neatly (as it does in most films, admittedly) or that there were gaping plot holes (though a lot of it was a tad bit on the unbelievable side). It just didn't mesh as a whole. There was something irritating about all the goodness. Nancy Drew, for all she was supposed to be the perfect girl, was incredibly annoying. And not only that, her character just didn't seem to click. Her personality seemed off, just out of phase, not focused... just not right. And that tipped the scales from 'fun, decent, comedic mystery' to 'an okay time-waster'.

Perhaps a younger audience would enjoy it more - I found it didn't mesh with my memories of reading Nancy Drew as a child, but you know how tricky the mind can be. It's entirely possible I'm misremembering. In the realm of feel-good teen movies, there are a lot better out there, but you could also do worse.

Fun adventure mystery
We watched it as a family and really enjoyed it. Full of action and suspense. Good music, fun setting, slightly predictable but still a good movie.

Best of 2007
Andrew Fleming's motion picture "Nancy Drew" (2007 DVD) is a fun, wholesome, and clever who-done-it murder mystery. Stepping from the mid 20th century teenage sleuth genre this flick brings a refreshing view from Hollywood.

Emma Roberts, in the title role, gives viewers a fresh, happy, and energetic portrayal. Nancy's world is rapt with fascination for the hunt, reflection upon complex clues, and determination to catch the bad guy(s), all while trying to make that world a better place. In the end, Nancy solves the murder, makes new friends all around, and shows how persistence and positive attitude always accomplished good.

This is a fun safe flick! There is no foul language, no nudity, and no provocative innuendo. The teenage romance (between Nancy and boyfriend Ned) is innocent sporting only a brief kiss during the final scene. (Kudos to Bruce Willis for a cameo in this wholesome film.)

This screenplay depicts an interesting mystery that an innovative teenager with imagination and courage solves. Nancy is faced by a complex and demanding world that she justly confronts and overcomes. The character Nancy Drew continues to be role model material.

"Nancy Drew" novel aficionados will be well pleased with this presentation. This movie/DVD is well done and recommended to whole family.

Very cute movie!
I really enjoyed watching this movie! However, I found the pop up facts, which it boasts as a special feature, VERY annoying and distracting to watching the movie. Emma Roberts is a joy to watch. Nancy Drew's special gadgets were very inventive. It was fun and humorous. Great TWEEN movie.

Drew for all
I thought that being over 50 and loving the original Nancy Drew books this movie would be a disappointment....but that was not the case. Emma Roberts is just adorable as Nancy Drew and true to her character. That they kept her in vintage fashion clothes and with her blue roadster was genius. Teens can finally watch a movie without sex drugs and still have it rock....adults like myself a Carolyn Keene fan can also enjoy a flash back to when teens sought to become heroes.....tried to obey their parents....and enjoyed some good clean adventure!
