disappointment twice
Smallville - The Complete Seventh Season

Paid a lot returned got a new one still does not work I believe there a fault in all the 7th season dvds

New Meat Doesn't Fill the Shoes
When the actress playing Lois came to the show she was sassy brilliant beautiful and a new spark for the show so I actually hoped Clark's cousin would at least be Interesting. NOT! The shows been nothing more than a soap opera anymore and the new blood just does not help. At least use a girl that's had a few acting lessons & not just a nice body. She has 3 expressions. I give this season 4 stars liberally and BECAUSE of the Blu Ray quality!!
Non-Blu-Ray gets 3 stars.

Enough Already
I had high hopes for this season and it started out good but fell flat on it's face here are the reasons and then a final synopsis.

Spoilers Below !!!

1. enough already with Clark's naive attitude yes he is a boyscout but this 7 seasons of a Clark pity party has too stop. How many times do we have to see him make the same errors and mistakes that he has made in judgment for the past 7 seasons before the lesson sinks in to kryptonian brain that his father jor-el is right.

2. we are up to season 7 and Clark still cannot fly. They teased it during the season but unrealized give me a break he's invulnerable yet he's scared of trying to leap from the barn to fly.

3. lara aka "supergirl" breaks from the original comic mythos about her origin. I liked how they reinvented her origin for tv but the way the re imagined her origin she should have been a guide for Clark coming into his destiny not having her being bossed around by a Clark that still after 7 years can't make the hard decisions. I know comic purists wont agree but in theory if you are going to make lara older and as a sort of guardian for Clark does it not make sense that because of his still naive minded approach to making choices that with her intact knowledge of krypton she could guide him.

4.jor-el should have played a bigger role in this season and taught his son more lessons then trapping him in ice. Like giving Clark some common sense and the ability to fly since Clark is to scared to that big leap for krypton.

final synopsis

Whoever wrote this season should be fired. the stories did not flow and mesh well at all and showed no progression and evolving of Clark from going from boy to a Superman. By the end of the season I was rooting for lex and brainiac to kill him. Superman was always a boyscout yes, but he always was very intelligent and had common sense in making his decisions. He also would learn from his mistakes I can see maybe 4 seasons of him finding his feet on earth and learning. But this last 3 seasons should have been him having his footing and learning to fly.

Bad Blu-Ray Episode Menu
All Smallvilles are fun and well done. The previous Complete Seasons were easy to skip to individual episodes and sections within. The latest Blu Ray interface for this set is inane ... no episode menu that I can access using PS3 DVD player. One is forced to treat Season Seven Blu-Ray like a VHS and scan linearly. Retrograde.

The generating studio's technical staff should be upgraded or re-educated to modern User Interface standards.

Unsatisfying
Season seven of Smallville proves that they should have ended this show a year or two ago. Amidst trying to round out characters that really don't need rounding and introducing a slew of new eye candy, this season really falls flat as a satisfying season.

Probably the only two pieces of saving grace to the season were the introduction of Kara Kent, and Michael Rosenbaum's performance as Lex Luthor. Kara Kent, played by Laura Vandervoort, is Clarks long lost Kryptonian cousin who's been trapped in suspended animation for the last two decades. Not only does she add another piece of delectable eye candy to this season, but she also helps to fill out some of Clarks back story as the last son of Krypton.

Without a doubt, Lex Luthor has to be the writers favorite character. The writers seem to love exploring and growing Lex's character, and season 7 is no different. This is in stark contrast to the other character this season, like Clark.

Clark more or less is stuck in his role as a overly protective, brooding, alien. On a positive note, they explore more of Clark's Kryptonian heritage this season by bringing new characters to the table. In what could have been the best sequences of the season, we are introduced to Clark's biological mother, and Kara's megalomaniac father. But they actually manage to screw this up, by cutting the story arc to only one episode. What!!!

As for the other characters, they just don't feel like they have any direction. This season really felt like they didn't know how to make the existing characters interesting anymore so the solution was to add just a bunch of other characters into the mix. Sort of sad really. They truely broke Lana's character, and Cloe's biggest obstacle this season was finding a haircut that worked for her.

Honestly I feel like the days of truly intriguing story arcs are over. As much as I loved a ton of episodes that came after, they really should have ended the show on season 5. Just one man's opinion.
