In THE NAKED JUNGLE, Charlton Heston plays the powerful, brooding owner of a plantation in the wild and treacherous South American jungle, while Eleanor Parker plays his charming American mail order bride. He is wary of this beautiful and talented woman, and wonders why she would leave America for the rigors of jungle life. Wonderful Classic |
This movie is in the best tradition of the romantic adventure. Heston and Parker sparkle together, and are a perfect team. Their very clashes have a wonderful chemistry, and with both stars in their prime, you couldn't ask for a more pleasing image to watch. The plot itself is classic, with enough twists to keep it interesting. I've loved this movie since I was a little girl- I've probably watched it 20 times, and plan to keep watching it every so often! |

Oldie but a Goodie |
This is a great action/romance flick featuring Charlton Heston as the owner of a cocoa bean plantation in the South American jungle. The film consists of a two part plot involving 1)the arrival of a beautiful bride played by Eleanor Parker and her developing relationship with Heston, and 2)the more ominous impending arrival of a relentless swath of ants eating everything and everyone in its path. I remember seeing this movie on television as a kid and loving it. Having just watched it again I can say I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Sure, the special effects are not 21st century but let's remember the movie was made in 1954. The worthy script and acting make up for this. |

crackerjack filmaking from an era that will never return |
1954 and they made them better because they had to . "it all starts with the written word" it's so often said , because it's true . an interesting premise with excellent leads who get an opportunity to stretch out their acting chops . it's fun to see how MR. HESTON and MS. PARKER really relish their rolls and put flesh on those pages . WILLIAM CONRAD truly excels in his supporting role as do all the game cast . there's real fun in watching the filmakers work overtime to try and made the studio sets resemble the nature photograghy . the natives look a good bit less realistic than a current film would probably have them , but that's a delight as well . and when the spectacular finale finally comes , it's flawlessly done and very compelling . as are the romance and other aspects of this treat . if you love TCM or simply older film that set the bar circa 30s , 40s , 50s , 60s and 70s like i do , you've got to see this one . it's old school outstanding . i couldn't wait to enthuse about it to anyone with an ear that i could bend . |

Remember when |
If you remember when movie stars were actually people with talent, people who could actually act, people who could make a movie with romance and adventure without blatant sex, drugs, and excessive violence... then this is one for you. I remember seeing it many years ago and as a fan of Charlton Heston could not wait to see it again. Truly a movie classic of an era when men were men and women were women and you could tell the difference. More often than not these day, oldies are truly the best. |
