A major criticism of the Foo Fighters' self-titled debut was its supposed lack of passion despite the well-crafted songs and well-crafted rock. This time out, if it's wreckage you want, it's wreckage you get. The Colour and the Shape grows deeper the more it's played, with the band's ripping power is more than matched by Dave Grohl's fascinating examinations of pain and divorce. There is even a convincing long slow ballad, "November Stars", whose intensity should win over doubters. If that doesn't work, then the screaming "My Hero" will.--Rickey Wright |

Best Rock CD of the 90s |
|
While the Foo Fighters have seen their popularity grow as time progresses, this album is by far their masterpiece. |

Foo Fighters "My Hero" |
|
Good set from a good group that has continued to grow and expand their work. Set includes "My Hero" which has been used in the 2008 Presidential race. Interestingly, in 2008, Senator Hillary Clinton earned more Votes than any other Presidential Primary candidate in American history (hillaryclintonforum, the denver group) |

Bargain slash must have. |
Just FYI, the version of "Walking After You" that most are familiar with is on the X Files soundtrack, not this one. But in truth, both versions are enjoyable.
While the remastering is subtle at best, this is a great buy at $7.99 (well, that's what it's listed at right now) even without the glorious bonus tracks.
"Baker Street" --- I can't decide which I like better; Foo Fighters cover (Faster tempo, guitar solo, coke instead of booze. Heh.) or the Gerry Rafferty (Poignant sax solo, sense of great space). I can listen to both back to back & never be able to choose.
If you don't already have this remastered version or the original, you should get it simply for the fact that "Everlong" is one of the best rock songs ever created. |

lots of orginality here |
i wont hold this particular version of TCATS to any real standard because a lot of the songs were b-sides added in later. i can tell you its a shame 'Dear Lover' wasnt put on the original release but oh well.
When i first heard this CD back in 97 it was instantly a classic and main stay and while i have had more fun with other Foo Fighters material its easy to come back to this one but only half heartedly. a lot of the songs just cant hold my attention so much anymore which is ok, so with that said i cant give this CD 5 stars. |
