Renown internationally as a manufacturer of boxing equipment, Everlast started out as a swimwear manufacturer in 1910. Headquartered in the Bronx, NY, the company was founded by 17-year-old Jacob Golomb. The son of a tailor and an avid swimmer, Jacob Golomb was dissatisfied with the durability of swimsuits because they barely lasted a season, so he began making suits that he guaranteed would last for a full year. He proudly gave them the name, Everlast. Although the swimsuits did not last through the years, the name did. Over the next years, Golomb expanded his company into a small retail store that carried a full line of sports equipment. In 1917, a young fighter named Jack Dempsey introduced boxing to Golomb and Everlast. Dempsey asked Golomb to construct protective headgear that would last more than 15 rounds of intensive boxing training. Golomb specially designed the training gear for Dempsey. In 1919, Dempsey won the world’s heavyweight championship wearing boxing gloves made for him by Golomb. Everlast became the headquarters for boxing equipment throughout the world. In 1925, Golomb designed elastic-waist trunks to replace the leather-belted trunks then worn by boxers. These trunks, now known as boxer trunks, immediately became famous. Jacob Golomb ran the business until he passed away in the early 1950’s and his son, Dan, took over. In 1958, Ben Nadorf joined Everlast and purchased 50% of the company from the Golomb family. When Dan Golomb passed away in 1995, Nadorf purchased the family’s remaining 50% interest. Nadorf remained the President and Principle Share Holder of Everlast until October 24, 2000. Everlast men’s and women’s apparel and accessories continue today to be tremendously successful both inside and outside the ring. In addition, Everlast boxing trunks and equipment remain the proud and undefeated champion of the boxing industry for more than 90 years. The history continues, as the name states. Everlast has a traditional past and a knockout future. Good buy, but not great |
|
I ordered this combo because of the bargain pricing. My box came with a speed bag, budget friendly bag gloves, double ended heavy bag, chain, heavy duty bungee. The gloves are good enough to get you started, they are not anything special. The speed bag is more than what I expected, works well, and good quality. The heavy bag does not seem to be packed properly, there is uneveness in its firmness/hardness. My idea of nevatear is a rubber-like skin that covers the fiber crosshatching, however my bag does not have a rubber-like skin;I can see and feel the fiber crosshatching of the bag. All in all it is a good buy if you are not picky; it works well for me for light-moderate martial arts training. I would still make the purchase again knowing all I do now. |

Great bag, works well |
|
I have just started using a heavy bag and this bag seems to work well for me. Comes with heavy bag, speed bag (will probably get a new swivel because the included one is very cheap), and gloves. The gloves are pretty cheap but they work OK for now. The double end bag works well and comes with a bungee cord. I use it with an everlast bag stand and have no complaints. |

Everlast 60lb Double End Platinum Heavy Bag |
|
Well-known Everlast Brand Name you can always count on, that is why I purchased it for my husband. He doesn't really like this one, not exactly what we expected. The gloves are not worth using. The bottom of bag appears to be filled with sand. The color is definitely platinum, looks old even before use, gets dirty very very fast. Would buy a different one, if could do it over again. |

Poorly Constructed |
The way these bags are constructed - or supposed to be - is that they are stuffed with fibers, and filled with sand, for weight, AT THE BOTTOM - the part you DON'T punch.
I was wondering why it felt like I was punching a brick wall on the left side: that's where they stuck the bags of sand. Just what a fighter needs before a fight (or anyone needs at any time of their life) - to be punching compacted bags of crushed rock.
This is a clear defect: I am considering returning it. Not sure if they're all like this, but I assume mine is not unique. Can't find where it says it was manufactured, but in this day and age, and based on the "craftsmanship", it's reasonable to assume China. Hey - at least the cardboard box it came in was made in Missouri!
Mine also suffered a little damage during shipping: the box had a small hole in it and the bag got scuffed. It usually takes years of pounding before this type of damage occurs on it's own.
Hey, it's hit or miss when you order online, particularly with oversized items, as far as shipping an "handling" are concerned. The shipping box was damaged and oil stained, the product poorly constructed. So, I'd call this a "miss". |

Great Heavy Bag from Everlast |
|
Wow! I was really pleased with my purchase. I've never owned a heavy bag before so I didn't know what to expect. I just started martial arts so I wanted a bag to practice on, but I didn't have a lot of money to spend. This purchase was not only well within my price range, but the bag is high quality and includes a speed bag with gloves! The gloves aren't very padded, a boxer friend of mine told me the gloves included were really for use on the speed bag. The heavy bag comes filled and is very solid, the chain is heavy duty, and the connections for the chain on the bag are well attached with double stitching. I was a little uncertain about just what the Nevatear material was, now I know. My description would be a heavy duty nylon with a slight rubberized feeling. In my opinion better than the abrasive canvas bags, yet not as soft to the touch as a leather bag. Two other purchases I would recommend are a good set of padded gloves for use on the heavy bag (I purchased some padded grappling gloves) and for the speed bag you will need two things: (1) a swivel attachement (I bought the Everlast plastic ball swivel for about $15 at a local Academy Sports Store) and (2)you will need to make or purchase a backboard and stand or wall attachment (I made mine from 2 x 6's and 3/4" MDF). All in all, a GREAT purchase! I couldn't be happier. |
