Minn Kota V2 Pontoon 68 Trolling Motor |
After lots of research and searching, I finally decided to buy a trolling motor for my 29 year old, 24' pontoon boat and chose the Minn Kota V2-68 (24v). I've used it 3 times now - so this is a newby talking. The resource info at Minn Kota, the sales outlets and blogs addressed my questions and the trolling motor is much as I expected. I am satisfied. Things I like: 3 year warranty, 18" cord on foot pedal, variable speed, quick launch, quick release, came with everything needed to mount it (except batteries - of course), clear instructions, installed it by myself, everything works, no problems. Disappointments: quick release mounting isn't fully stable when running motor at full speed, causing vibration that can only be controlled by reducing speed or going "straight" as ANY direction change causes vibration; and foot pedal steering sensitivity that is very difficult to master - meaning I am either oversteering - or getting no turning at all - when I try for small direction changes. Maybe, over time, I'll get where I can actually control where I am going? Otherwise, seems well made and solid. |

Great on our Pontoon Boat |
After mounting this unit on our 21 foot Fisher pontoon boat and heading to the lake with 20 mph winds, I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Although not meant to head into a Blue Norther in Oklahoma, this unit does an all around respectable job in a variety of situations. I have had several bass boats with good trolling motors and this one falls into that category. Nice installation hardware included also. Hope this is helpful to those searching for a much better than average unit with a longer shaft to accommodate medium sized pontoon boats. |
