About Sevylor
In 1948 in Vitry, a small suburb of Paris, France, Berco Grimbert created an electronics company called Societe Electronique de Vitry, or SEVY for short. Soon, a friend of Grimbert's from New York commissioned SEVY to produce high frequency welding machines capable of fusing a new material called PVC (poly vinyl chloride). SEVY's machines worked very well and the American friend developed a very successful business manufacturing swimming pool related products. He then taught SEVY how to work with PVC.

One of the first PVC products SEVY produced was inflatable bathtub called Dou Dou. It was an instant hit in postwar France--mothers could bathe their children even where no facilities were available. The media hailed Dou Dou as a significant invention. Soon, SEVY added small pools and flotation devices such as rings, beach balls, and inflatable swim jackets to its product line. Safe, hygienic products, made of PVC and designed for portability, durability and convenience, became the SEVY trademark.

The company quickly outgrew its small facilities in Vitry. Mr. Grimbert accepted an attractive offer from the French government to take over a defunct textile factor in the tiny Alsatian village of Buhl. After establishing its new headquarters, the company added the letters "lor" to its name, and became Sevylor. In French, l'or means gold. By coincidence, or possibly fate, Sevylor has proven to be "as good as gold" to its owners, retailers, consumers, and employees.

Customer Reviews for  'Sevylor Inflatable Bali Kayak'

Get the skeg
This kayak is great and easy to use from inflating to floating on the river. However get a skeg or you'll be doing circles down the river. It was frustrating until I got the skeg.

Good bang for the buck.
I looked at inflatable kayaks for a couple of weeks and decided to get this one. I ordered it late sunday night had it at my house by tuesday morning. I took it out tuesday evening on a small canal. Now as to the review. It tends to try and swing around and face the wrong way, this is easily corrected though by constantly paddling. Going down with the current was mad fun though, felt safe secure and dry. Going back up current was a bitch and a half though. My sister was in a plastic rental kayak, she had to stop every 10 minutes and wait for me to catch up. As long as you dont mind going slow upstream, and working your buttocks off then this is an awesome kayak. Oh and its tight inside there. Im 5'10" with no but and skinny legs, and my feet were touching teh end of the boat, for me its a good fit, if your bigger its a no go.
Tom. I will try it out on a lake, and edit this to let people know how it handles there.

depends on how you use this Kayak
I have a bit of a mixed review for this one. The way it inflates and deflates is very nice. I was realy surprised it was not hassle at all. It is confortable and easy to lug around. It is great for going down stream. It is helpless for any curent at all. The wind blows it around a bit. It is not suitable for serious kayaking. It can be real fun as long as you allow for its limitations.

Perfect for calm waters
I checked out many inflatables and finally settled on this one because of the other reviews and the price. I've never been in a kayak, only a canoe, so this was new for me. I bought the X Treme paddle that was suggested on the buying page and found it a perfect match.

My friend and I took it out on a lily pond to try it out. It seems very wobbly at first, but I put that down to my novice experience on the water. I couldn't imagine taking it down any rapids, however.

By the time I paddled in, it was very stable and more comfortable than the reviews led me to believe.

It is a little tight on the sides. I am well below the 250lb limit, but I still felt rather cramped at the hips and feet. It also seemed to want to turn to the left a lot. With weight placed in the front, I think this won't be a problem. I may try buying the skeg that is optional from Sevylor.

It weighs about 20 lbs, has 2 boston valves and a large plastic valve. It took less than 5 minutes to inflate with a rechargable pump. It was even faster to deflate and easy to roll up and put away. When you roll it up, it can fit under your arm, so I plan to take it on a few hikes for secluded ponds and lakes.

So now my friend and my father are both buying one for themselves!

Initial Revue
I cancelled an order for a Coleman two person kayak......flimsy. I ordered this kayak based upon postings. It is winter now....test will be in May. A fabric based inflatable costs $900. What I MUST SAY IS THAT USE REQUIRES PERSONAL FLOTATION VEST AND SPORTS SAFETY HELMET.
