Green Gift
These were given as gifts.......don't know how well they are working.
Great idea though.

Does it work??? I doubt it though nt sure
I bought this bottle filter primarily to filter tap water for drinking while traveling to other cities.
Find no change in taste though, hence not sure if it even works...

not so great
The bottle itself is pretty flimsy and you have to squeeze pretty hard to drink from it - a good concept, but not sure it will hold up to 90 refills.

Design change solves leakage
These now (Aug. 2008) have a new design-- the ribbing and label are gone, they come as just a plain clear bottle with no ribbing and broader at the base than the top (i.e. slightly tapered). It seems like the filter size has changed slightly too-- the old kind of filters would work pretty well with a Dasani bottle in a pinch, but the new ones don't.

The advantage of the new design is that they don't seem to leak anymore. The disadvantage is that the plastic is quite thick and stiff and will, I think, get crinkled and possibly cracked before the 90 uses of the filter are up. We try not to squeeze too hard, to prevent this.

The packaging talks about all its eco-features but doesn't mention anything about not leaching like plastic. It does seem like there is evidence that this plastic is at least somewhat better in terms of personal health, but corn plastic is definitely not a cure-all from an environmental standpoint, and we should try to use these for their full life before basically thinking of them as non-recyclable trash. A search for "PLA corn plastic leach" turns up an interesting Smithsonian article on the subject if you want to know more.

This is a Level 1 filter, so it probably won't do as much as we would like in terms of filtering pesticides etc., but I haven't been able to find any higher-level filters that are made out of non-nasty plastics, which seems like defeating the purpose.

Overall, this is a decent product that I would recommend, for those times when you know you're going somewhere with bad-tasting water and your Sigg bottle won't do you much good once you've run out. But we have to look elsewhere for our eco-karma points!

Quality control problem
I've bought this product twice. The first time I bought 2, the second I bought 4. The first 2 were fine. I use them at work and either would drink from them or filter water for coffee or watering plants. I didn't mind squeezing them. I realized I couldn't pour drink mix in them or it would get filtered out, but that was ok.
The second batch had several problems. Good thing I squeezed instead of drinking directly from it as it spewed black charcoal water. Also one leaked from the neck, and never sealed right. I wrote the manufacturer and they told me they were going to label them about the charcoal and that it would only happen in the beginning. As for the leaking one, to send it back. Who has the time for that? They also cracked quickly, and didn't last as long.
Then I started reading about corn as not such a good replacement for oil as it has environmental costs of its own...
