Subscriptions... |

After reading a review here mentioning subscription issues I went directly to American Artists web site and ordered a subscription. That was November 23, 2005 and now Feb. 10, 2006 still no magazine. When I finally complained I got a request to send my credit info again to vnu@espcomp.com. Can't say from looking at that address that I have confidence I was communicating with American Artist or a magazine publisher. Would you send your credit info...I think not. I'd say don't blame Americancivilwar as a previous reviewer did. Hey, the magazine is good if you can get a subscription. |

I ordered this magazine on February 25, 2005. It is now June 30 and I have not received a single copy. When I try to track this order, which WAS PAID FOR, Americancivilwar tells me I have the wrong order number; this is not so; I have the correct number, Americancivilwar doesn't know how to maintain quality control on subscriptions.

They did not honor my suscription |

I was pleased with the magazine but even though I renewed my suscription for the third year (and I was charged!) I never got any more magazines. Upon requesting Americancivilwar what had happened, they answered that they would not accept my renewal (no reason whatsoever) that they'd return my money (not yet, after 6 months) and that they would send 2 or 3 issues at no cost for my trouble...(I haven't gotten anything). I don't trust suscriptions throu Americancivilwar anymore. |

nice magazine |

I've received three issues in the mail now, I wanted to wait a few issues before giving a review so that I could compare them. I had assumed these would have drawing techniques, etc. for the pen or pencil...but these issues do not. These seem geared toward PAINTINGS not drawings (or at least these issues do). I have yet to see a drawing. Everything so far are paintings, with the exception of 3 color pencil drawings in the back of the magazine in the latest issue. What I DO see however are various color pages of paintings submitted to the magazine with articles about how the artist did the painting... with little behind the scenes tidbits within the article (like for one painting of the boston skyline, the article said the man took pictures out of an open door of a helicopter). I was a little disappointed with the lack of instruction, this book does NOT give techniques or advice. But it IS a wonderful artistic magazine for all artists if you want inspiration and see how the pros do it! |

American Artist Magazine Review |

I find the information within the pages of American Artist to be extremely valuable. The technical page offers insight to various problems the artist will encounter, and offers detailed advice on how to rectify those problems. The magazine highlights several artists in a variety of media within the same issue, so there is something for every art enthusiast. The artist sections offer a birds eye glimpse into the particular way that they create their art. I find myself referring frequently to past issues, enjoying the artwork that it entails, and often rereading many of the articles time after time. An immense amount of useful information in each issue. Not bogged down with pages of advertisements. I highly recommend The Artist Magazine. |
