I started reading Bunte in 1984 when I studied German in College. At the time, it was a combination of current events, nature and some gossip. Now, it is all gossip. It makes me so sad to see what it has become. It seems to be a larger version of Neue Post.
It seems your only alternative if you want a combination of current events and stories is "Stern". Der Spiegel has become too anti American for my taste. I could overlook the Socialist undertones, but the sheer hatred for everything we stand for is not pleasant to read every week.
