The TV Tuner for the Sega Game Gear is a great expansion to the portable game system, making it your own personal tv on the go. I was surprised to see that it has an A/V in jack and an antenna ext. jack as well, making it even more versatile. I could easily see myself spiltting RCA cables on my family's portable DVD player and hooking it up to my game gear so I can hav emy own personal screen. There are only a few channels where I live in Prescott, AZ(fairly rural compared to my home in CA) so the reception is hard to find. When I do get reception though it works well and the image is clear. I modified the antenna on mine by adding a small telescopic antenna to the the tip, maing it longer. This made a world of difference. If your going to use it in a car for your kids or yourself I would recommend getting an external antenna that you could mount on top of the car. overall its a great product. |

how come game gear never got popular? |

We have the tv tuner for our Game Gear system. It's great! Kids can watch tv at the beach or the park. I don't know why Game Gear never became as popular as Nintendo's Gameboy, especially with the tv tuner accessory and the backlight feature. I think Sega's Game Gear was also the first color hand held out there. Oh well. |

from what I understand only works with the original GameGear systems that Sega made. The GameGear units made by Majesco Sales Inc., the box states its NOT compatible with the TV tuner for the game gear. |

Did you think that Game Gear, the only handheld with a back light, was only to play games in the dark? If you did, you were wrong. Game Gear can become a color TV. Yes, just pull those bunny ears up and you can get your favorite non-cable channels. This item is great for car rides... if you get sick of playing Sonic 2 (impossible to beat! :O( ) then just whip out a TV and watch Ricky Lake, or The Jerry Springer Show. Your car trip will be over in no time! If you have a Game Gear, I suggest you get the TV Tuner. Its a great item. |
