Customer Reviews for  'Sega Master System 1 - Video Game Console'

Great overall game!!!
I brought this game at a garage sale with my grandmother in 95. These people were selling this system for 14.00 with 25 video games,2 light phasers,2 3d glasses, and in its orginal box. Man, this is a great video game system. I resently found 14 more games for this at 2.98 each at a thrift store. I would suggest playing after burner with the joy sticks if you got them. I wounder how much I could get for this thing... but I would give this to a gamer that respects video games and not kids who will brake it the second you give it to them because this is a delecut machine.

Like the Atari 7800, an Underrated System
With their NES, Nintendo took control of the video game market by the mid to latter 80s. I'm one of the very few people who felt that both the Atari 7800 and the Sega Master System were the better systems. (Sadly though, Atari and Sega found themselves fighting over the small scraps of the market that were left after Nintendo devoured more than a lion's share.) Although I only had the luxury of playing a few SEGA games like "Rastan" and "Black Belt," I found that I liked the Sega games better than most of what Ninetendo had to offer. I don't know how many people would agree with me on this, but I found Sega to have better game play and graphics, while Nintendo survived more on commercial games that were somewhat tedious and redundant. (Duck Hunt and Mario to name 2) I'm certainly not saying Nintendo never put out any good games. But I honestly do feel that Sega put more time, work, and effort into their games while Nintendo just had a grasp of what was commercially big at the moment. And just as I still pull out my old Atari 7800 now and then, I still pull out my old Sega Master System now and then. Often, the best seller is not the best product. The best seller may have just played its cards the best in the market, and had luck on its side. Atari and Sega may be 6 feet under now, but I still respect them more than Nintendo.

A great oldschool system
I got this handed down to me as a kid, and I played it all the time. And I still play it to this day. It may not have that many games, but what older system does? The games it does have were always fun and easy to play. In fact the whole system is easy to pick up and play unlike consoles today. I highly suggest this console if your into old school gaming.

Better than NES
Sega was too late to win the 8-bit war... (what war... they entered the fray so late the battle was over).. this is the system that may have killed NES had it been a few years sooner. This is basically the home version of the Sega Game Gear... hundreds of great games were made for this... and you can find stuff a bit here on Americancivilwar and a ton on auction web sites.. they made many Europe only released game in the 90's that are still a blast to play (like some sonic games that never made it on to another home console). Great system for the classic gamer... a must have.

Sega's first home console
When Nintendo was the master of the home console gaming world, Atari was on it's way out, and Sega entered the fray with the flawed but fun Master system. Hardware wise the Master is better than the original NES, with somewhat better graphics and sound, but the game library was sadly lacking. Since Nintendo pretty much had all the third party support it could muster, Sega practically had mainly their first party titles to release for it. Many of them were watered down ports of their arcade titles, but they were nontheless fun games for the system. The Master isn't a bad system at all, but it wouldn't be until the 16-bit era that Sega would release the Genesis; which would catapault the company to success. Below is a list of the best games available for the Sega Master system:

After Burner
Space Harrier
Outrun
Double Dragon
Y's
Phantasy Star
