Travels in Europe, Express Edition combines three CD-ROMs for anyone interested in the history, culture, geography, and tourism in three of Europe's most popular countries: Great Britain, Italy, and France. Sit back and let the programs take you on an unforgettable journey through these historical and beautiful lands through 2,150 full-color photographs, 55 minutes of videos, audio commentaries and narration, music, and a wealth of text. Whether you've visited Europe before or are about to plan a trip abroad, Travels in Europe provides an excellent overview of the sites and sounds to look forward to and remember for a lifetime. With Voyage in France, visit the most beautiful cathedrals: Strasbourg, Amiens, and Chartres. See the most impressive castles from Versailles to Fontainebleau, and learn about the cuisine and art of France. Then discover the sights and sounds of Great Britain, one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. Not only will you be able to explore the major attractions, but you will also learn about the history, politics, culture, and society of traditional and modern England, Scotland, and Wales. Before you end your journey, navigate through photographs, films, music selections, animations, texts, and narrations, and discover the most celebrated, as well as the lesser-known, works of Italian art, architecture, and music. Wander through the canals and over the bridges of Venice, and through the winding streets of Siena. |

Definitely NOT Rick Steves quality. |
This CD collection was apparently written ten years ago, and at the time might have been okay. The files are all bmp and avi, so they are small and crappy. There are a few bugs in the navigation, so you find yourself trying to trick it into doing what it is supposed to do. One particularly annoying aspect, is the fact that it assumes you have a 640x480 monitor, and therefore is a pathetic little display in the center of your blacked out screen. And the final insult of this item is its total lack of an uninstall utility, which in hindsight, would have been its most useful feature.
I assumed that this was associated with the excellent Rick Steves Travels in Europe videos, books, action figures, etc. product line, which is why I bought it in the first place, but after buying it, I feel like I have just been had. If it came with dinner and a movie, I might have considered it a case of date rape.
Finally, I gave it two stars instead of one, because it might have been an okay item in 1995, and I am the idiot who assumed it was something it wasn't , and therefore share some of the culpability.
