This is the first book in the Promise, Texas series |
Those who are fans of Debbie Macomber know what to expect with these series - very light, sweet stories with memorable characters.
In Lonesome Cowboy, Savannah lives with her brother Grady on their ranch. Grady had to work extra hard to keep the ranch together after the death of their parents, as a result he is often short tempered an grouchy. Savannah is a wonderful person, sometimes a little too-good-to-be-true, especially when it comes to her brother Richard (the never-do-well of the family).
Savannah is in her thirties and has resigned herself to never getting married - she hasn't even had a date in years! When she meets a stranded cowboy on the road and offers to give him a lift, and then one thing leads to another - can true love be so quick, and so easy?
What Debbie Macomber does best is create realistic characters - some good, some not so good, and some - it's up to the reader to guess? In this book she is true to her craft, and the characters I met in this book are definitely ones I want to meet again - in the rest of the series.
Sweet, light reading. |

Refreshing |
|
I was so glad I read this book. It is a light and very refreshing read. I get so tired of reading about men and women who can't stand each other and then within two to three hundred pages fall madly in love and live happily ever after. Come on, life isn't like that. Thank you to Ms. Macomber who realizes that and writes a light book about people who live honest hard-working lives. (And there is just enough evilness in the character of Richard to keep things stirred up a bit.) If you're looking for a book that is a change from streamline romance this book is the one for you! |

A truly sweet romance series. |
|
I too prefer clean romance. Nobody does it better than Debbie Macomber. We are a Christian family and so are wary of main line fiction, but I am so taken with Ms. Macomber.... I let my teenaged daughter read all this series. Excellent! |

Great Book |
|
I really enjoyed meeting the folks of Promise. Debbie does a great job with the story. I fell in love with Savannah and Laredo. Grady is a hard cookie, but he'll soften up. The mystery surrounding Bitter End is intriuging. |

Debbie's romp in a series form |
|
Debbie Macomber's done it again. She made summer a little more enjoyable with a series. The first is Lonesome Cowboy. She provides excellent tension between hero and heroine with a interesting complications from her two brothers. I had a difficult time trying to choose which one needed smacked on the head first. As another rose fanatic, I loved her correct details on historical roses. I can hardly wait to read the next one, TEXAS TWO STEP. |
