Customer Reviews for  'His Favorite Mistress: A Novel'

Uninspired and bland
I enjoyed the first two books of this trilogy, especially the first. However, it seems that the author ran out of inspiration and wrote this book only to fulfill an obligation. These are the main reasons why I disliked this novel:
-The heroine is only 17 years old and I believe that the hero is well over 30. It is difficult to see any real compatibility, except for the physical attraction and what the author TELLS us about their personalities.
-The heroine is illegitimate and the niece of an illegitimate rich man that bought a title in a previous novel, yet it is very easy for her to "take" in high society and aside from a few mishaps she does not have any real difficulties in being accepted by the ton.
-As a previous reviewer noted, I also have a problem with the constant use of flashbacks in the narrative and the constant appearance of the characters of the first two books of the trilogy. It only reinforces my suspition that the author had to struggle to reach the required word count and resorted to all kinds of tricks to achieve her objective.
-The writing is corny and the prose is purple. It failed to take me in and make me forget the outside world.
I may give this author another chance, but I will wait to read many reviews before I buy any of her books.

3.5 Stars.....I loved these characters but...
The ending was just so dang corny for for me. The author took so much time to nicely develop these characters and I really liked them...then, it became another I love him but how is he going to prove he loves me story...I'm just sick of those...could have made it better. It was fair to question Tony's love after the conversation that was overheard, but could have created a better path to the ending, instead of the typical.

Romance
This book is written in the days of the Dukes, Duchesses and
Lords and Ladies-they are very romantic and can be very sensual but not in
a disgusting way-the author describes the romance between the characters so precisely that you can picture them as if you were part of the book-very capitivating!

Hard to put down!
I loved this book! Tracy Ann Warren is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Out of the three books on the 'mistress' series, this is my favorite. I loved how the authors gives glimpses on the life of the other two couples in the series, while developing Gabriella and Tony's story.

Although Gabriella is much younger than Tony she is not the usual shelter aristocratic girl. Used to be on the road, she has learn tricks that not many woman would. Tony has had a trouble childhoood, and as consequence he refuses to marry. Once we see into his trouble childhood we understand his refusal to marry and why he is rathe slow at catching up his feelings towards Gabriella.

A nice surprise
I was a little hesitant to buy this book because the reviews of this series from this author have not been glowing, but I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this book. I was afraid that I wasn't going to like it because Gabriella is only 17, but this is really a non-issue because once the hero, Tony, gets past her age, it is sort of glossed over and doesn't seem to matter. I was glad to read that Gabriella never really had a moment where she did stupid things because of her age. I was sort of impressed with her. I thought she acted very smart in the latter half of the book where the author could have had her stray into TSTL territory.
I am lowering my rating to a 4 because I felt the last half of the book was superior to the first half. The first half had many, many, many scenes where we saw just how much Tony wanted Gabriella. He was like the energized bunny for a while. I don't think I could count how many times these two went at it.
But, overall, I liked this book. It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough that I think I will try the first two in this series and hope I am as pleased with them as I was with this one.
