Product Description
From the bestselling authors of Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made comes a heartwarming tale of how true friendship can overcome life's obstacles.

Gayle Saunders and Patricia Reid have been lifelong friends, as close as sisters. When they were teens their dreams led them down separate paths and away from each other. But they reunited as adults, drawn back together by a bond of friendship that stood the test of time.

Now Pat and Gayle co-own the Ell & Me Company, a business they founded based on a character Gayle created years ago for her daughter. Things are going well, but real-life dramas ensue as each must face issues from the past in order to protect the future.

Pat and Marcus look like the perfect twenty-first-century couple -- smart, talented, each at the helm of a high-profile enterprise and at the top of their game. But behind closed doors their marriage is challenged by the stresses of a two-entrepreneur household. Will their professional pursuits leave them time for each other and a family, or carry them into the arms of others? Will a paternity claim prove to be too much of an obstacle to overcome?

Gayle faces her own family drama and struggles to maintain control of her life. Despite dating other men, has she ever really gotten over her ex-husband, Ramsey, the gambler who left her and their daughter, Vanessa, in financial ruin? Gayle bends over backward to provide a stable, comfortable home for Vanessa, and support her dream of becoming a dancer. And Vanessa, a rebellious and hurtful teen, seems just as devoted to making Gayle pay for every mistake she has ever made. And what ever happened to Ramsey?

In Gotta Keep on Tryin', Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant bring us heroines who remind you, for better and worse, of women everywhere -- women who know that true friendship keeps us grounded. And when things get rough the bond between women can be stronger than any trials we face.

Divas Read 2 Book Club
Best friends since childhood, Pat and Gayle struggle to deal with the complications of family, friends and the success of their growing business. As this story unfolds, we are treated to a cast of characters that are so easily identifiable that this story is very relatable. "Gotta Keep on Trying," the sequel to "Trying to Sleep in the Bed You Made" does not disappoint.

A strong narration by the authors
Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant's GOTTA KEEP ON TRYIN receives a strong narration by the authors as it tells of two lifelong friends, close as sisters and reunited as adults, now co-owners of a business. Each must face issues from the past in order to come to grips with the future in this moving story.

Love these authors...
I have really enjoyed reading books from these authors over the years. I also enjoyed this latest book 'Gotta Keep on Tryin' although it wasn't as in-depth as the books I have read from them in the past. There were also a couple of loose ends that didn't get tied up for me in the ending (i.e. Bessie, Stuckey - no sure on how they fit into this novel/characters). Besides that, great book!

Gotta Keep on Tryin'...I Loved It!
This was a great sequel to Tryin' to Sleep in The Bed You Made. I love how the authors were able to incorporate so many everyday issues and concerns that people face. Gayle dealing with so much...an eating disorder, stress due to uncertainty with regard to her business, a recalcitrant daughter (Vanessa), not able to get over a failed relationship until she totally accepts forgiveness. Pat, always having to be strong for everyone else, dealing with a marriage and husband that feels more like a friendship and roommate, feeling snubbed by her husband and confiding in another man from work that has the potential to be a secret lover, and dealing with issues from her past that essentially hampers her happiness in the present. The story is real and engaging. It's a must read!

Gotta Keep on Tryin The Review
Patricia Reid and Gayle Saunders, who made their appearance on the literary stage in Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made, return in a sequel that further tests the bonds of friendship, marriage and their careers. In Gotta Keep on Tryin', Patricia and Gayle have launched a new business venture, and through much trial and terror, the women's talents propel this seeming pipe dream into something that gains the attention of a major conglomerate. At a time when success is imminent, Vanessa, Gayle's teenage daughter has become unmanageable, willful and is plagued by self-doubt and a condition that is affecting more teenagers today--bulimia.

Pat has her own troubles when Tiffani Alexander walks through their door claiming Pat's husband as her father, and it sets the stage for Marcus to suddenly focus on the daughter he's always wanted, but Pat, whose career has come first, was unwilling to give. Just when things couldn't get any worse, Vanessa moves in with an abusive boyfriend and holds fast to the relationship rather than admitting defeat and returning to safety. All this is followed by a lucrative offer from a conglomerate that pits the women's goals and dreams against each other.

Though the women's friendship survived an overwhelming amount of obstacles in the first novel, the developments, and their unwillingness to confide in each other or ask for help, might be their undoing in Gotta Keep on Tryin'.

This novel, a realistic look at the challenges that Black women face to balance family, career and love, was well written, an enjoyable read and well worth the eleven year wait for the sequel.
