Kudos to this debut author |
This book is a credit to debut author Devon Scott. Well written, intricately laid out story line. Although some characters (Reese and Miles) could have developed more into their story lines prior to their cusp in the story, this truly was an outstanding effort for a new author on the scene. The passion of this book is easily felt and not all story lines are as predictable as those of some veteran authors who allow their months sometimes years of work be published with numerous grammatical errors, character name misplacement and extremely annoying repetitious phrases.
My hat is off to Mr. Scott for an enjoyable, page turning, it could happen to you piece of work.
So you many be wondering why did I only rate this book with 4 stars? My answer is simple. There are key elements missing from this debut novel of which even the publishing company should have required. What are those things?
1. Acknowledgements - being part of the book community in any capacity it is not difficult to understand or fathom the time, effort, hustle, sweat, tears etc that goes along with writing a book of this caliber especially right out the blocks so it moved me to want to know something about the support system this author must have. What did he go through to get this book published? Who are the family, friends, acquaintances that stood by him to make them dream a reality? Who are the people who continued to encourage this author to not give up when doors may have been closed to him initially? The acknowledgements is the single most effective way for an author to say "Thank You" to those individuals and have it live on in print forever. Believe it or not there are avid readers that exist who take into account everything a book and author has to offer. I read the acknowledgements for every book I touch before reading the book itself. Consider it a personal preference however it gives me a sense of connection to the author and can only add to the overall appreciation for the work the author has done.
2. About the author? What happened to even a small paragraph about the author. This is a debut novel and there is absolutely nothing in the debut introducing this author to the literary world.
Back to the story itself it truly was interesting and there is an opening for break off story for Miles and Olivia as so much was left unsaid for the way their relationship ended up. (Not to mention the fact that Miles should have suffered the same fate as Reese after putting his hands on Olivia after being caught in their home, in their bed, WITH ANOTHER MAN! Sorry for that break in my review. I've composed myself now and can continue on.
Devon Scott, welcome! I look forward to reading and review your next novel. I have no doubt from your debut that it will be truly a great read.

Loving You Is Wrong |
Married couple, Ryan and Carly, and Myles and Olivia are long time friends. They often spend time vacationing together. Ryan and Olivia work for the same company and as a result of working in such close proximity, they develop feelings for each other. After a party hosted by Myles and Olivia, things go a little too far between Ryan and Olivia. When Myles confronts Ryan about what happened that night, the truth he reveals will leave readers reeling and sends Ryan down a slippery slope.
UNFAITHFUL follows two couples as they learn the consequences of what one moment, when things get out of hand, can do to a solid marriage. This story is the classic example that things aren't always as they seem and it could have taken so many directions. Scott surprised and entertained me with the path he took in laying out the plot. Married couples, best friends for years, yet they really didn't know each other at all. Just when you think the drama couldn't get any higher, another explosive scene erupts. Purely entertaining.
