Better Than |
: 5 out of 5
Better Than August 14, 2008
By Lisa Lanausse from New York, NY
"Have you ever felt 'Less Than? Just about everyone has: 'less than' the people on the job who don't appreciate the hard work that you put in day fter day; 'less than' seemingly perfect people who can wear anything they want and look fantastic in it; 'less than' a human being worthy of love and respect. In this book, Ms. Esdaile weaves a delicious tale of a woman who's tired of having and being 'less than' and decides to change her life to attract positive energy so that she can have and be 'better than'.
Better Than takes you on a journey of re-discovery for Deborah Lee Jackson and Jason Hastings. They've both been deeply wounded and made to feel like 'less than' by past significant others. Together they learn that they can have and be 'Better Than'.
Fall in love with love again. I challenge you to read this book and begin your own "Better Than" story!"

It's the BEST |
Deborah Lee Jackson has just been served her final divorce papers and is tired. It's the New Year and time for changes. She's decided to lose some unwanted weight and try some new classes to improve her life. At this point, she feels than something different has got to be better than what she is doing right now. She's on a quest to get her life, her health and her head right, and there's no room for a man in that equation.
Jason Hastings is a dedicated artist with a huge project to complete. However, when his best friend has to go to England, he talks Jason into taking over some of his classes so he still has a job when he get back.
Jason first notices Deborah in a herbal store and is thunderstruck. The minute he sees her, he wants to paint her. Deborah, a beautiful, thick sister, thinks he's just using a line to get the panties. But she can't stop thinking about him.
When Jason walks into her first class she is dumbfounded and the real fun begins. Their attraction is so strong, it damn near crackles in the air around them.
I ain't gonna lie. This book had me crying my eyes out it was so good. Every woman, at one time or another deserves to be made to feel this good about herself. While reading the book, I found myself putting it down a couple of times to reach for some tissue. I have long been a fan of Leslie's, but this book did me in. I love all of her romance books, but this one here? Shoot, hands down, her best one EVER. Her prose is lyrical and I hope to one day write even a tenth as good as this. If you are a fan of hers, do NOT miss this wonderful gem of a book. I would love to see a sequel because I really want some more of Deborah and Jason. |

What I Deserve |
Deborah Lee Jackson is attempting to starting her life anew. Recently divorced and working at a job with no room for growth, she decides to remake herself in terms of her education, spirituality and her physical appearance. Doing this leaves no time nor desire for a man.
Jason Hastings is a commissioned artist dancing to his own beat, and he too is recovering from a relationship gone bad. While shopping at a health food store, Jason and Deborah meet as he helps her select items for her newly found desire to become a vegan.
On the home front, Jason's bestfriend asked him to cover some college classes for him while he is touring. Against Jason's better judgment, he accepts and again runs into Deborah. The two start a heated and fulfilling romance, but the drama within their family intervenes.
Deborah's mother died while giving birth to her and she always felt her father blamed her. Deborah's father is a military man and raised her with the same discipline and stringent rules as an officer would raise his troops. Jason is considered the unconventional one within his family. While all have advanced degrees, Jason is the only one not working the corporate 9 to 5 job, which is a constant thorn in his family's side. Being the youngest of four children, Jason was raised by his grandmother and is several years younger than his siblings. Growing up, he accepted the fact that he lived with his grandmother and not his parents and siblings. During a monthly Sunday dinner, the truth is revealed as to why and fireworks begin.
I enjoyed this romance by Leslie Esdaile; a romance which was typical in the beginning of boy meets girls and falls in love, but quickly interjects issues which must be dealt with in order for the relationship to sustain itself and to grow. Esdaile's knowledge and portrayal of the artistic world and the vegan lifestyle was an educational journey for me. The issues were finally coupled with the tried and true religious and spirituality piece of taking your troubles to the Lord and leaving them there. BETTER THAN by Leslie Esdaile is a very interesting and enjoyable read.

Better Than the first Time |
|
This was a good read. I started off slow in the beginning. Once the story started to flow, it did not stop. Deborah was hurt the first time in a loveless marriage. So it is hard to believe this man(Jason) can be attracted to her. Thing are going well for them but then he learns he's not really who he thinks he is. He goes on a mission to learn about the missing pieces of his life, but he can't stop thinking about her. They eventually find their way back to one another and find happiness in one another. |

Not For Me! |
|
This book by Leslie Esdaile was okay! I really didn't like it because it got off task one too many times to me! Maybe her other books are better but this one just did not make the cut with me! |
