Deja` vu??? |
I feel like I have read this story before. I know a romance novel will most likely end with the two characters together. However, the story line is a bit of a cliche. I had to concentrate really hard to finish it because I felt like I knew what would happen next. I gave it three stars because I know that had I not read so many romances prior, I would've enjoyed it. The novel wasn't released that long ago so I feel like the author could have tried to procure a little more originality. Ms. Jackson is a good writer as her other novels will attest, so I have come to expect better quality reads from her. I hope she writes better next time.
Write on, read on

She is so SAPPY |
I have read a few books authored by Brenda Jackson and, as always, she is too overly sentimental, too melodramatic, too sappy. Her love stories seem to frequently follow the same formula: "She was the most beautiful women he had ever laid eyes on..." "He made her feel like she had never felt before..." PURE SAP! It can be entertaining in moderation, but to inundate an entire novel with it is quite sickening, and, since I read fictional novels as if they were based on true stories, quite unrealistic. "Risky Pleasures" is no different. It's sappy from beginning to end, a typical love story if you ask me.
Cameron Cody has his eyes on Vanessa Steele. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, so he had to have her. However, she is hesitant about pursuing a relationship with him because of her past failed relationship and the fact that he tried to steal her family's company. He chases her in the beginning of the novel, they date by the middle of the story, but face a few ordeals, and, in the end, guess what? They live happily ever after. Cameron and Vanessa have a good relationship, but it seems to thrive off of sex. I wish the author would have created more obstacles for them as a couple and cut out some of the sex scenes.
Her writing skills are good, but her stories lack creativity. This book is decent at best. Personally, I was ready for it to be over. Purchase at your own risk. 3 stars

Another GREAT book by Brenda Jackson |
|
I have been a fan of Brenda Jackson for many years and I have A LOT of her books. After reading Soul Caress, I knew I had to get the rest of the series. And I wasn't disappointed. Risky Pleasures was a great read from cover to cover. |

Mmmm not sure about this one |
|
Ok the book is hot, its obvious Cameron and Vanessa are going to get together from the previous books. However this Steele addition seems so formulaic, it feels like another book that Brenda Jackson has written already. I give it 3.5 stars. The ending does seem rushed like lets wrap this up and get on with the extra story, which was lovely to read but perhaps would have been better placed in Night Heat. Maybe its me but I am bored with the young 20 something, rich upper middle class lady that has one bad lover and then uses that to swear off all men, the same for the men as well, one selfish girlfriend and then they decide love ain't worth it? How did these seemingly educated, intelligent people get rich with that attitude? lol |

Pleasures worth the risk |
"Risky Pleasures" is the long awaited book about feisty Vanessa Steele and the man set on capturing her heart - Cameron Cody. Vanessa has had one disappointing experience in life and is determined that she no longer wants to be involved with another man at this point in her life. However, Cameron has other ideas. Cameron is determined to pursue Vanessa even if it means following her to Jamaica when she goes there to "house sit" for her sister.
When Vanessa discovers that Cameron is hot on her trail, she decides to turn the tables and beat Cameron at his game. Vanessa sets out to charm Cameron with seduction, however, Cameron is of the same mind. With both minds thinking alike, will their seduction of pleasure turn into "risky pleasures" that both never thought could happen? In order to find out, you must read the story.
"Risky Pleasures" is definitely hot and will keep you turning the pages.
