Editorial Reviews for  'Going-Natural: How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair'

Product Description
Have you ever considered going natural but thought it would be too hard? Try Going-Natural! Many of us are alienated from our stigmatized coils and have no clue what to do with our nappy hair. This book helps you reacquaint with your natural naps and shows you how to grow out a perm. But more than that, this book makes a joy out of what you thought would be a difficult journey.

Customer Reviews for  'Going-Natural: How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair'

This book helps you to fall inlove with your hair!
While reading this book I could tell that the information was well researched and the the author had a lot of experience taking care of natural african hair. I think this is one of the best books for people who are newly natural or who might be considering going natural. I liked the way the hairstyles were explained, i feel I can replicate them. Mireille (the author) truley have a great love and apperciation for her hair and when I read this book, I really started to feel the same love for my own hair. Thank you for this book!

I wish I'd had this book growing up
I love love love that this book by Mireille is all about how to care for tightly curly hair and there is no chapter thrown in about how to force curls straight, thank goodness! It's so refreshing to see an entire book devoted to celebrating natural hair. Filled with lots of information on how to escape from chemicals, and what to do with very curly hair after you have made your escape. This book concentrates heavily on braids, cornrows, locks, twists, and how to give yourself a nice afro. Mireille showcases her curls proudly, and gives lots of ideas and inspiration for anyone wanting to wear more African inspired styles.

Great natural hair guide...
I just went thru with my Big Chop on July 27, 2008 and needed some help with styles and hair care products for my texture hair. This book is a great quick guide to how to take care of our natural hair. Excellent book and an easy read!

Hair Bible
I have to say that for someone that didn't have no one to go to about my natural kinks, I was so happy when I recieved this book. I call it my hair bible because I feel like it has given me hope for my hair. I'm still learning what to do with it and how it can be neat and healthy at the same time but this book has definitely help me through my journey. I was natural for 2 yrs when I got this book and I'm so happy I bought it. It was worth my 12 dollars. Every penny :)

Meh
I've been relaxing my hair for over 35 years. Due to some damage I went to wearing braids for a few years and when I finally stopped with the braids I had this massive, thick, rough-stiff head of beautiful hair I didn't know the first thing about. After two weeks of hard core combing, unsuccessful moisturizing, bad hair products and strangers reaching up to touch it all the time I could stand no more and went back to relaxing. I was completely unprepared and was running out of money trying different products that just left me with crispy hair with pore clogging oil dripping into my face.

I want to try again. This time I want to be prepared though so I bought this book prompted by the reviews I read here. While it does have some very helpful information I don't think any of it was worth the price I paid. Going to the site seemed a further attempt to extort more money as you need a paid subscription to glean anything. How good the information is there is a mystery as you can't see anything at all unless you pay.

There are possibly salons in your town and free forums on the net that could tell you volumes more than you can learn from this book. The problem with the online forums though is that information is scattered about all over the place. Good luck finding answers to your questions. The book does give some good information so I gave it three stars however there's vast room for more. Instead there seem to be plugs to check out the website which requires a monthly subscription fee. The pictures in this book are in dull no frills black and white, not very many and the instructions for styling are vague. While the book does much to motivate you it merely dangles the carrot before you to become a slave to the money scheme on the website. I'll pass.
