Editorial Reviews for  'Entre Nous: A Woman's Guide to Finding Her Inner French Girl'

Product Description
Ever wonder what gives French women that je ne sais quoi?

At first you might think it’s the elegant figure, matchless style, and mysterious allure. Then you realize those qualities don’t come from just anywhere. They come from generations of women raised to cultivate an extraordinary sense of self. French women know who they are, like who they are, and excel at presenting who they are.

The rest of us are often susceptible to the next fad, the new thing, the ultimate diet. We’re always seeking, instead of realizing that what we already are may be just right. Rarely does an American woman feel as comfortable in her own skin as her French counterpart. And rarely does an American woman have that essentially French ability to say no---to refuse anything that doesn’t suit her, whether that thing is a job, a man, or the season’s latest styles.

Provocative and practical, lively and intelligent, Entre Nous unlocks the mystery of the French girl and the secrets of her self-possession. Why do French women always look inimitably stylish? How do they manage to sit in a café for a three-course lunch and a glass of wine...by themselves? How do they decide when they’re ready to let someone become a part of their very private lives?

Laced with practical tips, engaging sidebars, and essential observations about French women and their ways, Entre Nous is a delightful book that will help you take the best of all pages from the French girl’s book---the page that reveals how to really enjoy life.

I Feel a Little More French Now...
As an admirer of all things French, I knew that this book was a must-read for me. I've read other books on the same subject, but this book not only explores the fashions and the food that we love so much, but really delves into the rules that the French girls lives by: discretion, self-possession, and taking the time to find quality and sensuality. The French girl seems mysterious only because she is so completely in control of herself - and not in the way we think. She understands herself to a degree that we Americans or English women rarely achieve. This book teaches us how to slow down our lives and how to find ways to bring into it a little of that French je ne sais quoi. I found this book to be not only entertaining, but inspiring.

This book includes chapters on work, home, fashion, and relationships. It also includes recipes, film and literature suggestions, and tributes to some of the world's favorite French women, like Coco Chanel, Audrey Tautou, Catherine Deneuve, and Edith Piaf. Some details will shock readers (like the accepted practice of a French man taking a mistress). But aside from that, or even because of it, this book is universally charming and intriguing...just like a French girl herself.

Witty and Charming
I had high hopes for this book when I bought it, and I was only a little disappointed. The first half of the book gives examples and ideas about how French women act, how they see themselves, and how they present themselves to the world. She adds in examples from women she's known in France, and overall I found it delightful. The second half is a little less useful, as it touches less on attitude and fashion to house decoration, presenting meals, and work lives. I think she stretched a little bit in the second half, but its still a delight to read - and her film and books suggestions are gold. This was well worth the price and it provides easy, enjoyable reading, as well as good advice on how to carry yourself with confidence, whether French or not. I know many French women who fit her ideal, and many who do not - but she certainly gives us something to aspire to.

Fabulous Insights
Entre Nous is an innovating book that captures the femininity and admiration of the French woman. From tips to ways of life, this book focuses on the importance the French girl puts on food, life, and play. Throughout the text, the author recommends books and films that capture the essence of the topics at hand.

This book will help to change the way one thinks of her work. It will also help one to encourage relaxation, to take life slow, and enjoy the pleasures life has to offer.

Painful
This book is incredibly TEDIOUS. Maybe because I ready after How to be imposibly french wich is great!.

I find the little quotes and film notes more interesting than the book itself. But very distracting.

A fun read
Of course this book is full of superlatives and portrays French gals in that better-than-ourselves version. Just as we know that not all Brazilians look fabulous in bikinis and dance samba with grace, we also know that not all French are graced with fashion sense and the Amelie impish grin.

What I enjoyed about this book is that it reminded me there is that better version of me, a more poetic side that I can tap into. So ignore the hard-to-believe parts, especially those that tout French women as hostesses who know exactly how to consider every party details while looking amazing and flitting about the room with brilliant words on their tongues. No way.
