Product Description |
Back on the job after an involuntary leave of absence, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch is ready for a challenge. But his first case is a little more than he bargained for. It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range - what looks like "trunk music", a Mafia hit.
But the LAPD's organized crime unit is curiously uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex - and much more personal. A rekindled romance with an old girlfriend opens new perspectives on the murder, and he begins to glimpse a shocking triangle of corruption and collusion. Yanked off the case, Harry himself is soon the one being investigated. But only a bullet can stop Harry when he's searching for the truth . . . |

|
LAPD Homicide detective Bosch is back from an involuntary administrative leave just in time for the bodies to start turning up. When he finds hints of an mob hit but can't interest the organized crime unit in the murder, Bosch has to take the investigation into his own hands in a this hard-boiled tale full of sharp turns. Fans of Michael Connelly's excellent, The Poet, will go wild for this even better addition to the Harry Bosch series. |

No surprises here! |
Another bad cop killing his lovers spouse with the spouse orchestrating from the sidelines. A plot Connelly has used more than once.
In all, if you look at it stand alone from the others in the series, it is well done. Good characterizations, good dialogue, but well worn plot.
It is readable, however. |

Continuing the action with Harry Bosch |
|
Harry Bosch draws the case when a body is found in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce. On the surface, it appears to be a mob hit by the Outfit. The case takes Harry to Vegas where he finds an old flame along with some leads (see "The Black Echo). As usual there are some twists and turns along with some surprises. And, of course, there is the question of all that money. |

Review |
LAPD detective Harry Bosch is back. Bosch's new case will have him traveling to "Sin City" Las Vegas as well as seeing old acquaintances. What happens when a Hollywood movie producer is found shot twice and his body left in the trunk of his car? Harry will ask himself these same questions, while trying to solve this homicide. Tony Alisio was found dead and it seems for some people that are just fine with that. The suspect list is long from Tony's wife, Veronica and a stripper by the name of Layla. Plus what does the mob have to do with any of this? While in Vegas, Harry runs into former FBI agent and ex-girlfriend Eleanor Wise. Can Harry close this case or will seeing Eleanor make him run off track.
I really liked Harry Bosch. He is a sharp shooter. You always know what you are going to get with him, whether you disagree with him or not. Mr. Connelly has written a great character in Harry Bosch. I grabbed this book and started reading it and even though it was late at night, I just knew I couldn't go to sleep till I had finished reading it. Luckily for me, Trunk Music moved at a very fast pace that never let go till the end. I found Trunk Music to be a good crime/mystery story. Michael Connelly has been a number one best selling author for years and he deserves to be on top.

Great thriller |
What a style! Michael Connelly is an artist. The story is remarkable, rich, complex. Painting feelings gives a special dimension to the work - which is unusual in the genre.
Harry Bosh: What a talentuous policeman! Great thriller. In line with The Closers (Harry Bosch), The Black Echo (Harry Bosch)by the same author. Remarkable. |

Another great Bosch novel |
After being on suspension and tracking down his mother's killer, Harry Bosch returns to homicide and is partnered with former partner Jerry Edgar and new partner Kiz Rider. Their first case is a big one. Anthony Aliso's is found in the trunk of his Rolls Royce. All indications are that the murder was a mob hit. When Bosch tells Aliso's wife, Veronica, of the death, she isn't very sad. Anthony had been spending a lot of time in Vegas lately gambling and carousing with a younger woman. The trail takes Bosch to Vegas where he encounters an old flame, Eleanor Wish, as well as some characters that will be featured in future novels.
For me, this wasn't one of my favorite novels, but Connelly still delivers with a complex plot and memorable characters. Was Aliso a victim of a mob hit, of "trunk music", or was it something else? All signs point to Luke Goshen, a thug in Vegas who operates a club and works under mob man Tony Marks. As usual with Connelly, there are plenty of twists and turns and fans won't be disappointed.
After reading some of the later books in the series, I've started reading them in order. It really is fun to follow the characters in the series from the beginning. It was great to see Eleanor Wish again after her stunning downfall in the Black Echo.
