Product Description |
|
A beginning course for adults who prefer a chord approach. It teaches chords for both hands so that the student can play more than single note melodies. It contains outstanding songs such as "The Entertainer," "Scarborough Fair," "Greensleeves" and "Amazing Grace." |

Cons: Does not give me Superpowers |
Excellent book for beginners. I started playing the piano when I was in grade school, a girl would go and have her piano lessons, and then come home and teach them to me. This book helped me to remember more than anything.
The only irk(s) I have with it is, maybe it is just my copy (although I doubt it...), the Greensleeves song (on page 82-83), has a note that is incorrect. No big deal, I just penciled in the correct note, but it did take some tracking down to make sure that I am correct.
The first 2 F#'s that are in the song should be F naturals. That is in bar three (3) and bar eleven (11) in the song.
Also, when I got to the end of the book I was so happy that I completed it and the award certificate is cute as well, I just wish it were on another page, seriously. You get to the end of the book and find out that you have to copy your award certificate because it is on the back of a simplistic version of "The Entertainer".
Just my two cents, but, again, overall GREAT book! |

Good for Teachers, Good for Students |
|
I have had very good success with this book for beginning adult piano students. I have just recently begun teaching lessons, so I chose this book and studied it before I began teaching. Now I have three different students working out of it, and all three are doing very well! I highly recommend this book along with the supplements (Alfred's Sacred Book 1 and Greatest Hits 1). |

Excellent and easy |

I am 38YO and have not played since I was 11. This book is perfect for me. It builds on skills slowly and it's a great reminder of fingering, reading music and the arrangements are perfectly written for me to really feel like I am breezing through the lessons. I highly recommend this book. I am probably already ready for Book 2 but I really want to master this one first. |

Alfred's Piano |
|
I bought the book AND the CD from Barnes & Noble. I don't know why Americancivilwar doesn't stock them both together. I found the book very good, but the CD has a really cheesy soundtrack which sometimes drowns out the piano examples. The pages are clear and precise, the diagrams easy to see, and the concepts clear. Overall I would say that this is a good book for the beginner and you really should buy it WITH the CD, just try and forget the awful din coming from your speakers; just listen to the piano examples to see what it should sound like. |

This is an amazing course |
|
I have never played piano before and I'm halfway through book 1. I'm taking my time, but its been about 3 weeks. The stuff coming from my fingers sounds like real music and I'm using both hands to play complex music. I never felt overly intimidated though, each new song is a challenge, but never too much of one. The first few songs take minutes, then a couple sessions. I try to practice in tiny chunks (I have a 5 year old son), of about 15 minutes and the length of the songs in this book are great for that. I can't recommend this highly enough. |
