Hulk Smash...
It's been a long time since a writer has written a story that allowed the Hulk to let lose and have a lot of fun while doing it. An additional bonus was Bruce Banner's absense from the majority of the story.

Greg Pak did an amazing job with one of my favorite Marvel characters.

Hulk on a Quest
Well, HULK Smash has been done so many times, it's not "fun" anymore. But HULK Smash on another Planet with an array of different opponents? Now that's something interesting! Planet HULK is significant from the start because he's been exiled by Earth's Superheroes. It's kinda like being thrown out and found guilty for needing space and being able to control his mental disability.

In any case, he's on a foreign planet and MUST once again Fight to survive. The story isn't that innovating or new, kinda like Gladiator, but with HULK and his sidekicks, it's fun and it rejuvenated the HULK comic book franchise. Too bad Dr. Banner isn't focused, but if you want that, go check out Peter David's HULK.

The Smashing and the Quest to HULK's freedom is well plotted. The art is fantastic and the story flows very well. I would highly recommend this HULK trade paperback for any comic book or casual comic book fan.

Space Opera Gladiator
I read World War Hulk first, but had been following the hype for Planet Hulk in the year of its publication. I bit the bullet and coughed up the 35 bucks (35 dollars for a paperback comic?!).

The artwork is really wonderful - and the story is entertaining. Just about everything about the story is derivative and I've seen it several times before - every character, the main and side plots - but still it was a good read (probably because of it, rather than despite it - something of a tribute, while forwarding the difficult-to-expand-upon character of The Hulk).

Not a 35 dollar read, mind you, but a good read.

Highlights for me were the fast moving detailed scenes (Flash Gordon meets Gladiator), and The Spike (not quite zombies, or the techno-organic virus of Warlock fame).

Borrow it and give it a read!

Smashing
Thanks God there is Greg Pak.

He likes the character, more than this: he knows him. The Hulk has never been so well-handled since the 90's. Based on the 1985 Hulk's epic crossroads by Bill Mantlo, and on the Superman's Exile in 1988, Bruce is thrown on a distant, savage and unknown planet, And from slave to king, passing through gladiator and rebel, the Hulk makes friends, saves people and says he doesn't care about puny pinkies - just to save them again. The story is long, though, and sometimes the art doesn't work that well. If you are a Hulk fan, or just like good MARVEL comics, then this is for you.

great book great art!
let me start by saying that i have only loosely followed the hulks career. I bought a few hulk comics her and there and always found it interesting when he would turn a new color(Grey/green) or get a new personality for an old color. but i began hearing about this book from a few friends and i decided to check it out.....and i am so glad i did!

The story in this book is top notch. It really is. the writes created a great new world for the hulk to play in, except theres on catch; hulk is not "strongest one there is". At least not at first. With out trying to give away to much about the story you find out that when hulk arrives on the planet he entered some kind of "power draining portal" which left him much much weaker. for instance early on he can actually be made to bleed, which is not an easy thing to do. In fact Hulk is even made into a slave and sold as a gladiator.

Anyway over the course of the story we meet another very powerful hero from the marvel universe that has also been weakened and trapped on this world. I wont give away who it is but i think you will be pleasantly surprised when he hits the Hulk in the face with a Mace.

The hulk eventually makes friends with some fellow slaves and goes on to do some great things on this new world, but ill let you read about that on your own.

Now we all know that story isn't every thing in a comic book, the art is great as well. The colors are strong and vibrant and the hulk truly looks angry in the book.

The reason i gave this book a 5 star rating was because i found it very hard to put down. i just had to see what happened to the hulk next and the book never disappointed me. do your self a favor and just give it a shot.
