Product Description |
"Easily the most innovative alpabet book of the year, if not the decade... Beyond clever."—The Washington Post Prepare to be amazed. From the lenticular cover that changes with the angle of your hands all the way to the Z, ABC3D is as much a work of art as it is a pop-up book. Each of the 26 three-dimensional letters move and change before your eyes. C turns into D with a snap. M stands at attention. X becomes Y with a flick of the wrist. And then there's U...Boldly conceived and brilliantly executed with a striking black, red, and white palette, this is a book that readers and art lovers of all ages will treasure for years to come. |

ABC3D Pop Up Book |
|
I found this item browsing through Americancivilwar and had to get it. The embedded video showed the whole product from A to Z. I purchased it for my daughter. It's too delicate for her to play with but it'll be a fun learning experience. You may want to take advantage of supply and demand and purchase this while it's still cheap!! |

I collect pop-up books and this is one of the best. It is a stunningly beautiful rendition of the English alphabet in pop-up form. Each page is a delight. Some pages combine letters such as "P" and "R" where the "R" is formed by adding a transparant page containing a diagonal line to the "P". I was immensely pleased when I received this book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a particulalry clever take on the alphabet or to a person who would find satisfaction in owning a beautifully designed and executed book. |

I purchased this popup book for my granddaughter. Some of the popup letters didn't work properly. Quality control? The book its self is rather unique in someways and was motivational. |

Designed for a child or designed for the sake of design? That is the question. |
I don't have kids. But I do count three pre-schoolers among my close friends and keep a stash of kids books on hand for their visits. One day shortly after this book came in the mail, my 3 ½ year old pal Katie and her dad and younger brother came by and I asked them to give it a try.
Here's what I observed. 1. Adults are quick to appreciate the remarkable cleverness of this alphabet book's design; kids of alphabet-learning age probably aren't. 2. The book's well constructed but also quite fragile, and requires some manipulation of some of the pages for some of the letters to be recognized. Therefore it works best as a lap book in the hands of an adult, who'll both do the machinations needed to make the letters appear properly while at the same time protecting them and keeping them intact. 3. Except for the U, which is the book's star attraction and most fragile construction, Katie recognized and recited all the letters quite easily. 4. All this took just a few minutes, after which Katie jumped off Dad's lap and went straight for my stash of "Olivia" books as usual and has expressed no further interest in this one. 5. Her Dad thought it would have more family value if it also included lower case.
I suspect this might be a great addition to the bookshelves of people who work one on one with lots of little kids and people who teach design. Meantime, I intend to solicit additional reviews from my 4 ½ year old friend Riley as well as her grandmother Mary and good friend Linda who teach first and second grade. If they have anything to add or disagree with in what's said here, I'll get back to you. |
