Product Description |
Butch O'Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard-living ex-homicide cop, he's the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world-to engage in the turf war with the lessers. His heart belongs to a female vampire, Marissa, an aristocratic beauty who's way out of his league. And if he can't have her, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers.
But fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, he's found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him. |

Wonderfull reading! |
I had a great time reading this book as well as the others in this serie. The brother in question in this book is actually not a vampire. But he is in love with one, and will do anything to be worthy of her love. Of course it works out in the end, but with a nice twist to it.
I will definently read this book over again and again... |

whine, whine, whine |
OMG! could anyone whine more than the Butch and Marissa in this story??
Out of all the BDB stories, this one was so not on par with the others. first, there wasn't enough depth to the love story between Butch and Marissa. The love scenes were so forced and uncomfortable to read. Butch was a pathetic drunk who spent 90% of the book feeling sorry for himself. Marissa was self-centered and indulged in a pity-party for herself every chance she got.
the only thing that got me through the book was the vibes bouncing around between V and Butch. I wanted an exploration in that relationship more than I wanted the stilted sex between Marissa and Butch.
The only reason I gave this book 3 stars instead of 1 was because of the other characters in the book. I hope V's story is much better. |

Not enough depth |
As someone who has already read Sherilyn Kenyon, Lynsay Sands and Christine Feehan books about vampires I find this version not very well written. Each of the authors above created a world that was highly complex but explained it fully to the point that you enjoyed each turn and twist from real life. J. R. Wards style has too many types of species and events that are not explained, characters that are so negative and not fully developed which make it very hard to stay focused and enjoy the experience of this series. I have read 5 books out of this series and still don't feel like I know enough about this world to really look forward to another book, like I do for the authors listed above. Also it seems that the drama of each character is drawn out to the point where I just want to know the end rather than how the story plays out.
