I am feeling this book |
|
Eli Grayson knows how to treat a woman. He has so much respect for Jewel and treats her like the Jewel that she is. She taught him how to love and he taught her how to make love. The twist and turns in the book had my mouth wide open and reading into the night. The part where Jewel and Eli were talking about if they will ever see a black man become president in their lifetime blew me away. I had to put the book down and contemplate. This could happen in my lifetime and I felt so proud because we have come a long way as a country. The history in this book as well as the romance is very compelling. It's a must read. |

When Love Comes..... |
|
This was my first read by Beverly Jenkins and a first for historical romance; however not my last. I really did enjoy the story of Jewel and Eli...those sex scenes were definitely HOTT! I really enjoyed how Ms. Jenkins dropped the historical facts and books in this novel, books that I will be picking up. However, this book was the kind of book that you took everywhere with you, could put it down always knowing that you were in for a treat when you did pick it up. I especially liked the way this book depicted smart, witty, and daring/caring black folks. If you haven't read any of Ms. Jenkins work, this is a great book to begin with. Kudos to Ms. Jenkins......ummmmmmmmmm that Eli was somehthing else and melted me everytime! |

Jewel |

Great book. I am a huge fan of Beverly Jenkins and love her historical romance books. This book is very interesting and brings characters from some of her previous books. The historical content is always on point and of course the romance part of her stories is always the icing on the cake. This book, as any other of her books is well worth its weight in gold. |

Simple and engaging historical romance |
This is a simple and engaging romance set in 1881 in the small town of Grayson Grove. Eli Grayson is a confirmed bachelor whose troubled past seems mostly behind him but whose beloved newspaper has had to close due to lack of funds. When a newspaperman talks about starting up the paper again Eli is thrilled, but it seems that G W Hicks won't trust Eli unless he's a married man. Eli says that he has a wife and then has to persuade one of his lifelong female friends, Jewel Crowley, to agree to masquerade as his wife for one evening meal.
But that one meal with G W Hicks starts something more serious. When the locals hear that Eli and Jewel are married they realise they will have to be married in truth in order to save her reputation. Their marriage starts off without much hope - Jewel has no desire to be one of the many women that Eli carries on with, Eli discovers his wife is fairly independent and wants to get a divorce in due course. Can they both learn to trust each other, and will the return of an unpleasant woman from Eli's past cause irreparable problems to their fledgling relationship?
'Jewel' was an enjoyable book to read with a lighthearted feel. There wasn't too much depth to any of the characters, settings or events but some of the historical situations were interesting and the backdrop of the struggle for rights of black people was well written. It was a gentle romance which will appeal to people who like historical romances and for those who like to read stories with black couples as the hero and heroine.

Loved it |
|
There's so much to say about Jewel. I loved every bit of it. I'm so glad that this book by BJ was set in the 1800's. I like her historical romances better than I do her contemporary ones. She's wonderful. I couldn't put this book down at all. If you don't have it you need to get it. You won't be dissapointed. |
