Editorial Reviews for  'Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 1)'

Product Description

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Cat in a Hot Skin Spoof
Fun meter rating: 3 stars. The main story line was worth 4 stars; the writing (and editing) was worth 4 stars; the unbelievability of too many events made it worth 2 stars at best.

MINOR SPOILERS: We have our heroine spend hundreds of pages demonstrating her inexperience with the real world; then in the space of a few pages she becomes super wise and take-charge. The ending was too rushed - I sensed the "Oops, I've about reached my page limit and I've got to end this and get in the set-up for the sequel so I'll just have to rush." Then the whole ending was so flaming unreal I had a hard time reading it for my laughing. END OF SPOILER.

Fantastic.....
I really enjoyed this book tremendously! I normally dont read from the romance genre but there were such great reviews about this book I decided to give it a try. I really enjoyed the character Bones (even though the name reminded me a bit to much of what Agent Booth calls Dr. Brennen in Bones). I don't imagine vampires being that sappy, but its fantasy here and I loved it. Being the skeptic I am, I kept waiting for him to double cross he just as much as she did.

One thing I really disliked about the book too is her mother. If she were real I would walk up to her and smack her across her face for the way she treats her daughter. But I guess that is what the author was going for.

Anyway, I think this book was really well written. The scenes between Cat and Bones have a great sexual charge that kept me reading well past my bedtime! And I LOVE the way he called her Kitten, I can just hear his accent in my head.

This book is defiantly something I would recommend to others who enjoy a little fantasy with their romance.

My new favorite author
I was going on vacation and wanted some fluff to read :) Man am I ever glad I grabbed this off the shelf. I read the whole thing in one sitting. Ms. Frost can spin a tale.

I laughed out loud at Bones while completely falling in love with him. Cat entered my heart as well and the two together are my new favorite couple! I may have to tell Anita Blake to step aside and make some room.

Halfway To The Grave - Jeaniene Frost
This book is fantastic! It's action-packed, and the characters are amazingly believable. Cat is a GREAT heroine; real tough, but with all the vulnerabilities of being human. I also loved the vampires as not necessarily evil (except for some, of course, just like people), but just doing what they need to exist. I've also read the sequel, also fantastic, and can't wait for the third book! Enjoy!!

Seems like a nice author but.......
I was really looking forward to reading this book. I was getting tired of historical romances with hyped up reviews that let me down. I came to Americancivilwar looking for something different. Unfortunately, this book reminded me too much of others characters I have read in the past. Sorry, if you want to read this book, go to the library and save your money.
