Product Description |
"Since time began, there have been Nightwalkers - the races of the night who live in the shadows of the moonlight. Love with humans is absolutely forbidden, and one man makes certain to uphold this ancient law: Jacob, the Enforcer...FOR 700 YEARS, HE HAS RESISTED TEMPTATION. BUT NOT TONIGHT...Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them and they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, uncontrollable hungers, or the curse of the moon, his control is total...until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York City street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes. Their attraction is undeniable, volatile, and completely against the law. Suddenly everything Jacob has ever believed is inflamed by the heat of desire... Bring on the night. "Jacqui Frank's NIGHTWALKER series depicts an engrossing alternate world, drawn in prose that is lush and lyrical." - Linda Howard " |

Another so-so, not great, story |
Bottom line: Try before you buy
This was yet another book, I really wanted to enjoy. Having never read Frank before, I was neutral.
It starts off, and the two main characters sort of run into each other, fate I guess. Okay. I can believe that.
But as I'm getting farther along, I'm noticing that I'm not really that captivated by the characters or the story. The book didn't have me picking it up during all hours of the day sneaking in reading, because I as the reader, was so enthralled by it.
And the sex scenes were...just tepid..definitely not smokin' (which may have had more to do with lack in the character development).
I'd recommend J.R. Ward, Keri Arthur (Riley series), Sunny, Kim Harrison for adventure with sex. And for mostly adventure MaryJanice Davidson, or Laurell K. Hamilton, or Patricia Briggs (Mercy series). |

Delicious |
Jacob (Book 1 of The Nightwalkers Series) by Jacquelyn Frank is a better than delightful romantic treat in the world of paranormal. Deliciously sensual ground shaking love and Demons like you have never seen before encompass this book with an elemental frenzy.
Jacob is young for his six hundred years and every bit the professional when it comes to his job. Being an immortal Demon does have it's drawbacks and it's up to Jacob as The Enforcer to make sure that things go as they should and if a law is broken he is the one to track down and punish the guilty party. An amazing male of his species he is graceful, quiet, extremely handsome and about to get the shock of his life.
Isabella is a petite brunette with the most silky long dark hair that just begs to have your fingers run through it. A delightful little beauty who is kind as the day is long, smart as a whip and packs a mighty punch, she is every bit the match for Jacob. Born human with the normal human life she is stunned beyond words when her life goes topsy turvie and she discovers the real truth about her heritage.
Our story starts us out in a period of unrest and upset during the Druid time of Samhain and a few days before the full moon. A time when the Demon's worst nightmares can come true as necromancer's ply their magic by summoning Demon's to them. A time when a Demon can go from looking totally human to becoming a hideous beast. A time when a intelligent caring mind can be turned into a completely different personality with only two thoughts left, self preservation and sex.
What was thought long ago lost to the Demon race has reappeared. What was once thought of as their destruction is now their salvation. Those who the Demon race thought they had rid the world of have come back again but now as a race of halfbreeds. A thousand years have passed since the great war and it has taken that long for the bloodline of our halfbreeds to become potent enough to make itself known.
Our author has given us an extremely rich tale of love, lust, nightmares, purity, pain and terror. She has given us a race who considers itself supreme over humans only to have the rude awakening of having a door slammed in their face as they realize their mistakes. She has given us a tale of love coming from the most unlikely of places. A love that should be taboo. A love that will right the wrongs done to an innocent race oh so my years past. A realization of the harsh punishments that have been doled out to beings doing only what nature had meant them to do.
This is a luscious novel action packed and sure to keep you reading from beginning to end while sitting on the edge of your seat.

Good and Bad |
*warning* minor spoilers ahead
As my title states, I did find good and bad points for this novel. Overall, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the author's twist on the idea of demons (although sometimes it felt "demons" was just another word for "vampires"). The thing that made this a three star "okay" read was the fact that they were so strongly bonded to each other that they read each other's minds. I know that this was supposed to be romantic and show how in tune with each other they were. It was supposed to emphasize how much they were soul mates. I get that. It didn't quite pull it off for me, though. Instead, I was a little horrified by the fact that neither one of these characters would have a private thought ever again. I don't see how it's romantic that someone, no matter how much you love them, has access to your every thought. Even when separated by distance, Jacob became extremely upset because Isabella is getting medical treatment and *gasp* has to be touched in a nonsexual way to do so. The ick factor of this alone was enough to bring it from four stars to three. As far as new books by this author, I'll browse through Gideon before purchasing. I am curious about the secondary characters enough to look for the book, but was put off enough by the mind meld that I'm going to make sure it's not an ongoing trend for all of her characters before adding it to my TBR stack. |

Jacob and Bella...hmmm...where have I heard those names before? |
I really liked this book. It think that the characters were well thought out and I love the creativity it must have taken to create an entire world. In my book, Jacquelyn Frank is right up there with Stephenie Meyer and Sherrilyn Kenyon.
I was really impressed with this book and look forward to reading the others. |
