With nine years and a turbulent childhood between them, Kendra and Jamie have never been storybook sisters. After a long estrangement, they've finally begun to heal their hurts and forge a new bond. Now Jamie is offering a gift Kendra has long since given up hoping for, the fondest wish of her heart—a baby. Already raising two young girls on her own, Jamie wants to become a gestational surrogate for Kendra and her husband, Isaac, giving birth to a child the husband and wife have created together. Despite some lingering misgivings about her once-wayward younger sister's commitment, Kendra agrees, and soon Jamie is pregnant. In addition to this amazing gift of life, Jamie has designed a new house for Kendra and Isaac and is overseeing its construction on Isaac's ancestral property along the Shenandoah River, with the help of Cash Rosslyn, one of the most attractive men Jamie has known. By giving her sister both a home and a family, Jamie hopes to prove to Kendra that she deserves absolution for her past mistakes. But when a medical crisis threatens her health and her promising new relationship with Cash, Jamie learns that the most difficult choice in her life is yet to come—and its cost may be beyond calculation. |

My choice -- Sister's Choice |
|
Have read the other four books in the Shenandoah series...this one is just as great if not the best...love Emilie Richards' descriptions of her characters, the quilts and the "life" of this series, I'd hate to see it end....and naturally, I've had to get all the quilting books that go along with this story line! If I'm not quilting, I'm reading about quilting....addicted to it...and to Emilie Richard's writings. |

Really loved this one |
|
I did not enjoy the last book "Touching Stars". It didn't add much to the series. But I loved this one, and can't wait to loan it to my sister and other friends. Of the series, this holds up as the best stand alone book. Looking forward to the next one. |

Sister's Choice |
I just finished Emilie's newest edition of the Shenandoah Album Series. This was a wonderful story. I have read all of the books in the series and have enjoyed every one. I can't wait for the next one.
I do have one issue --- the fact that a lumpectomy could be completed in a weekend seemed a bit far fetched to me -- that was my only criticism. |

A book that actually changed my opinion about something. |
|
Other reviewers have provided a synopsis. I'll simply say that SISTER'S CHOICE changed my view of surrogacy. Not a true "romance" although Ms. Richards' books are carried in that category. Not really chick-lit either (thank goodness.) Good clean writing (grammatically and stylistically speaking). The series beginner, WEDDING RING, is, so far, the best of the (currently) 5 book series but this one (the 5th), IMO, is the 2nd best. If you like meaningful story lines, emotional character development, and a quiet read, SISTER'S CHOICE and any of the books in this Shenandoah Quilters series will appeal to you. If you like high action and intense sexual encounters, it will not suit you. In fact, the love-interest angle is not the primary story here. On occasion, I need to get away from all that. The quality of the actual writing by Ms. Richards is so high that she seems to provide just the break I need. I especially like the way that each entry in this series ties into, via flashbacks, another historical storyline involving the quilt featured in the book. These supporting storylines really bring those characters to life. |

I didn't want it to end |
I never read any of the previous Shenandoah Album novels but hope to in the future. I really enjoyed this book----very sweet story with great characters. Her writing was easy to read, the "lessons learned" were timely in today's infertility crisis and with the many creative ways to have a baby. The emotional struggles were very real. I felt like I truly "knew" the people in the story----hard to put down because I always wanted to read "just one more chapter".
I usually prefer the murder mysteries. But this was a very pleasant, "different" book that is enjoyable in spite of the ups and downs of the emotions and sub-plots. I recommend it to any woman who enjoys reading a good story.
I hope there is a sequel. I want to follow Cash and Jamie's life for many years to come.
