Product Description |
|
This extraordinary treatise explores parallel passages from the Bible and the Hindu scriptures to reveal the essential unity of all religions. Swami Sri Yukteswar is renowned as the revered guru of the great pioneer of yoga in the West, Paramahansa Yogananda (author of Autobiography of a Yogi). In this remarkable work - composed in the year 1894 at the request of the great Indian sage, Mahavatar Babaji - Sri Yukteswar outlines the universal path that every human being must travel to enlightenment. He also explains the vast recurring cycles of history - the yugas that mark the upward ascent of human consciousness over millenniums - amid the ever-changing panorama of turbulent world events. |

An intriguing signpost |
For me, THE HOLY SCIENCE is a book that creates more questions than answers. My copy literally fell onto me (repeatedly!) from the top of a stack of books in a second hand bookstore which is a mean feat for what is a smallish volume (about 120 pages). Eventually I was annoyed enough to put it in my cart. That happened over three years ago and it would be nice for my Ego to say I purchased it because of some great spiritual feeling; however this was most definitely not the case - it was only $6 and I thought what the heck.
It stayed on the bookshelf back home untouched for six months before this funny thing happened; it began to get back in my face again. And so it began, the Flower of Life texts I had just finished had Drunvalo talking about his vision of Sri Yukteswar, Krishna Das sang of the Kali Yuga cycle; Thomas Ashley-Farrands mantra series had me chanting the Gayatri over and over again; and Walter Cruttenden's Lost Star of Myth & Time bounced its way onto my lap after researching for a lecture presentation on the Great Year Cycle - all themes which Sri Yukteswar writes about from 1894!
So be aware - if you're reading this review - then it's most likely this book is also calling to you to discover a truth of a timeless spirit; that may be connected to your life on more levels than your conscious mind can presently understand. I'm not a Kriya Yoga initiate, and you don't have to be. Truth is universal in that we know it best by what it ultimately invokes in each one of us - and it has more patience than Time or form. If you want to taste a sample of the wisdom behind the guru of Paramahansa Yogananda, this is pretty much it - the only book Sri Yukteswar was instructed to produce, from a truly wondrous lineage of divine beings. But don't go expecting the complete answers from THE HOLY SCIENCE; for these are specific to you, a book can ever only show part of the way. A useful, most intriguing signpost; and not the destination. Rgds |

Sri Yukteshwar, A true light for mankind! |
I first read this book as a young student perhaps forty years ago and I just loved it. I recently sent it to one of my best friends who is a spiritually advanced psychotherapist. She just couldn't put it down and ecstaticly engulfed it in one sitting. It is packed with explosive spiritual insight that will bring you to new depths and horizons in spirituality. Hold onto your hat! Wow!!!!
I had to buy a copy for myself to reread. This great soul is just .....(no words). I simply revere him. What a beautiful small packaged gift he left us by preserving his knowledge in this way. Yukteahwar is amazing. We are all blessed by his dedication to us. |

True to the source |
After reading this book I wish I had met Sri Yukteshwar personally.
While the energy as true as it is of Yogananda, it did not resonate to me like that of Sri Yukteshwar. I consider him a guru and a true source of God experience. This book is short but I still treasure it in my library.
Jai Gurudev,

Religious astrology and unfolding of great knowledge |
|
Swami Yukteswar is a great philosopher whose life is uniquely divine. He brings an unprecedented truth that we are not in Kali Yuga (the "dark" age). It is interesting to read his hypothesis on four ages of human civilization. His knowledge on "sanatan" scriptures is remarkable. Although a thin book, The Holy Science requires hours of reiteration to understand his intrinsic message. It is interesting to realize that Sri Yukteswar was not only advanced in spiritual world but also he was superior in numerical interpretations and logical analysis. |
