As a Minnesota youth in the 1960s, I never liked country western music, and so never would have opted to hear Hoyt Axton sing anything, not that I was even familiar with his work.
But this version of The Yellow Rose of Texas, one of my favorite songs in the first place, is the best I ever heard. For me, it blows away any other rendition. It hits the spot the song it supposed to hit, and richly.
Now, contrary to my 1960s hard rock instincts, I'll have to look for Hoyt Axton albums to see what I have been missing.
